Binary method of storage

When I bought an SD card, still in the box from the store, the advertised storage from the seller and the vendor website was 16 GB. I was ready for that unboxing experience and using the product for the first time. Once the device was out of the box, now comes time to verify the specs. Then, buyer’s remorse after an unboxing.

After checking the capacity on a Windows-based computer, I only have 12.7 GB and not 16 GB like what was advertised. So it appears I lost 3.3 GB, but that is not the case. This is actually more common across consumer electronic and digital devices, like smartphones and tablets. …

The impermanent loss also called divergent loss, is the difference between when you are holding tokens in an AMM (Automated Market Maker) Liquidity Pool and just simply holding them (i.e. HODLing) on the blockchain. When tokens are provided for liquidity in the market, they are funded to other users from a Liquidity Pool. When HODLing, the tokens are simply being held at market value.

In providing liquidity, the price of the tokens in a Liquidity Pool can diverge in any direction. The more divergence there is, the more impermanent loss a user (i.e. Liquidity Provider) suffers. This is called impermanent because it can only be temporary. When the price of the tokens return to the original value the user had invested, the loss is erased. This is a common occurrence in Liquidity Pools, but it can become a permanent loss if the user withdraws their liquidity and absorbs the losses or if the price continues to diverge and the user loses more tokens as a result. …

The legality of Digital Signatures

In order to properly implement digital signatures used in contracts and legally binding documents, we must understand how they must meet compliance. If the technique is proven a best practice method with legal binding to data (e.g. documents signed with e-signature or electronic signature) it must be implemented to avoid the consequences from regulatory jurisdictions. Traditionally, documents were signed with ink on paper to be considered legal. The term now extends to electronic documents, or a document that is in digital format stored in a computer system.

For distinction, digital signatures are cryptographic proofs of identity while electronic signatures or e-signatures used in documents are the electronic equivalent of handwritten signatures. Documents can be electronically signed by a user with e-signatures. The user’s identity is verified with digital signatures for security and validity purposes. Signatures in contract agreements can be legal even if they are in electronic or digital computer format. What is important is that they cannot be easily forged through electronic means and must be linked to a valid identity. …

Tokenizing Hard Assets

Smart money in … Dumb money out. That is often how market cycles work and vice versa. Smart money powers economic cycles with bullish trends while dumb money does the opposite. There are too many speculators when it comes to cryptocurrency and digital assets, the market becomes very volatile. Speculating on a digital assets value is mainly due to market driven forces, but can also be manipulated by whales who dump (sell off) only to pump (buy back in) when the price value goes down.

Hard assets are much less volatile (e.g. gold, silver) and have proven for centuries going back to ancient times that they are a store of value. While these are precious metals and tangible objects, it is now possible to tokenize them in some form on the blockchain. Gold-backed cryptocurrency are here and it can also be applied to other hard assets. For gold, tokenization introduces new ways to buy, sell and trade the precious metal quickly and more efficiently. …

Resizing and Resampling

When working with digital images, there are plenty of manipulation techniques we can apply. A photographer can edit photos captured from an SD card during post and further retouch the images. One important detail is the size of the image, also called the resolution. The resolution is measured in pixels along the width (w) and height (h) of an image. You can change the size of an image by resizing and resampling. Resampling involves resizing, but resizing is not exactly resampling. The two techniques are not the same though the term itself is used interchangeably at times.

The total size of an image is (in resolution R) the width multiplied by the height (or vice versa depending on the…

Closure in Javascript

Javascript variables can belong to a local or global scope. In a local scope, a function contains local variables which are exclusive within that scope only as in the case of a function. The function can also read variables defined outside of its scope, called global variables.

In the following Javascript code example, we have a function which contains variables. The function has access to all the variables contained within its scope.

EXAMPLE 1

function myVariable() {
var a = 4;
var b = 2;
return a + b;
}
myVariable();> 6

It also has access outside of its scope. A global variable, which was defined outside of the function, can still be accessed by that function as shown in the next example. …

The PS5 vs. Xbox Series X

The PlaysStation PS5 and Xbox Series X are ready for launch, and it is good to see a head-to-head comparison between the two consoles. Let us take a look at the console specifications to see how they will perform. PS5 offers enhancements to user experience with their adaptive trigger haptic feedback DualSense controller. The Xbox Series X features its own Velocity Architecture. They both have something to offer the demanding gamer.

The expectations for the two consoles are quite high. A pre-holiday release just before Thanksgiving and Christmas puts them in a good position. It might be affected by recent economic woes, but sales could also be boosted as more people are staying home. …

Hacktober and Cybersecurity 2020

October has been Cybersecurity Awareness Month. 2020 will be a memorable year, but mostly not for good reasons. If anything, it goes to show just how dependent on being interconnected we are and how important it is to our daily lives. The Internet has enabled people to continue working despite lockdown rules for public safety and the enforcement of social distancing as a preventative measure against the covid virus.

These arrangements could also become permanent moving forward, so workers will have to adjust to a network-centric work environment. This offers convenience for everyone to work from anywhere they like. …

Bitwise Operators and Logic Gates

We use operators to perform an action on variables and values. In Python, operators can perform both logical and arithmetic operations on values which are called operands. These are used in conditional and logical statements to test a condition and then perform a routine.

Types Of Operators

The following are bitwise operators used in Python. They are called bitwise because they require conversion to binary bits from an integer number format. Operations are performed at the machine readable bit level, while the result is returned in human readable decimal format.
