Introduction

As described in our last article , we aim to produce, and support projects to produce, high quality merchandizings, while working with products and partners that respect the environment and working conditions.

In order to demonstrate our level of expertise to the ecosystem, we will develop our own brand Wen Mint Sir (“WMS”) through our first NFT collection, “The Elemental Elves”.

The first drops of merchandizing will be a set of three kinds of t-shirts which we will give you more information about the material used in this article.

Material Used

The material of our t-shirts is made of simple Jersey, 100% organic cotton spun and combed except for our “RE-WMS” t-shirts which are made of 50% organic cotton and 50% recycled cotton.

Jersey is a very common way of weaving. It is a regular knitting with one thread, it allows to obtain a robust and resistant fabric.

Cotton is, from our point of view, but also from other professionals, the best material to use for a high quality t-shirt, it is soft and pleasant to wear.

Since we do not find any ethical justification to use traditional cotton, we have chosen to work in an eco-responsible way by using organic and/or recycled cotton.

The environmental benefits of organic cotton

Growing organic cotton, unlike conventional cotton, does not cause chemical pesticides, fertilizers or insecticides to seep into nearby soils and rivers. This also means that the water used in organic farming is not considered as waste water. It can therefore be reused to feed other soils and sources in a non-damaging way.

In addition to its positive impact on water, organic agriculture respects and protects animals and biodiversity, as well as the health and quality of life of animal and human populations.

We only have one earth. The way we produce has an immediate impact on the soil, the air, the rivers, the oceans and the population of our planet!

The social benefits of organic cotton

The fashion industry has a heavy environmental impact but also a social impact. Workers are often victims of fast fashion and its cost-cutting which directly impacts their wages.

Moreover, the working conditions in the traditional fields seem to come from another time as they are dangerous for the health of its workers.

According to the UN, more than 200,000 people worldwide die from toxic exposure to pesticides. Fortunately, organic cotton has no impact on this disastrous death toll because, unlike traditional cotton, it uses no pesticides.

In addition, even though the productivity of organic crops is lower than that of traditional crops, the income of farmers remains the same because organic crops require much less overall expenditure.
