Modernism in design is a rather recent thing, and yet from our generation’s point of view, it is already a thing of the past. It is a form of design that rejected ostentatious, elaborate ornamentation, believing it to be a sign of materialism, and instead developed as a very minimalist style with clean lines and simple shapes.

Modernism is a style that has embraced change and non-conformity. It represents adaptability and progress, with adaptability, versatility and continuum as guiding principles.

It is also a style that heavily insists on functionality and shuns inefficiency and waste. NO space or feature is left unused. Everything is designed with utmost rationality and everything has a logic behind it.

Another feature of modern design is the introduction of accessible structures and products, design to make life easier for people who diverged from the baseline.

Modernity also saw the rise of sustainable products and clean energy, demonstrating care for our environment.

Now, for some fun opinions. these are more to make you think than they are to state any political opinion or agenda.

disclaimer: these opinions are not to be taken seriously.

One, I believe that capitalism and the desire for cost-cutting and prioritization of quantity over quality played a major role in the rise of modernism.

And two, the principles of non-conformity and change influenced from not only liberalist ideas, but also from more anarchist ones.

These are interesting ideas to ponder, and for the imaginative reader will likely provide plenty of entertainment trying to figure it out.

have fun, my readers.

until next time,

This is Zeck,

Signing off.
