How to Use the 3 Types of Meditation to Create a Haven Within Yourself in A Highly Stimulating Environment

Introverts often have difficulties dealing with social situations over a long period of time.

While it may not happen all the time and is different for every introvert, there may be times you find yourself exhausted in a social situation where your presence is non-negotiable.

Meetings, networking events, your child’s birthday party, weddings, or even a small family occasion that turned out to last longer than you expected are some of these situations.

When your social battery depletes, it can be hard to keep up with the party or occasion, and you may end up not performing at your full potential.

This can harm your job if higher standards are expected from you or decrease your confidence in social occasions.

It is always important to psychologically prepare for social events, but sometimes the preparation does not get you through the whole occasion.

Meditation is a powerful tool you can use to prepare beforehand for these events and get through them long after your social battery depletes.

The three types of meditation you can use are breathwork, mantra, and visual meditation.

Breathwork meditation is a common meditation used as a calming exercise that effectively reduces nervousness. It can help introverts stay calm and avoid the crankiness often associated with mental exhaustion from too much socializing.

You can perform breathwork meditation before attending an event to prepare yourself and during the event when you find yourself losing your calm due to exhaustion.

You can also perform breathwork meditation after a social event to help you relax and get ready for a period of recharging.

Visualization meditation can be the most powerful tool when preparing for a social event as an introvert.

But only when done right.

Visualizing how conversations will go is not the best way to go. At most, it will get you ready for conversations that will not happen and at least, make your conversations ineffective.

By planning a conversation in your head, you figure out all the right answers but may use them for the wrong questions.

You are likely to not listen to the other person, waiting for them to finish talking so you can respond, especially when you are pressured to get it all over with and retreat to a lower stimulating environment.

If you can’t get to a quieter place faster, you should find a way to make the most out of the time you have to spend interacting with other people.

Fumbling over your words at networking events may leave the wrong impression on your bosses or subordinates. You may lose confidence at social events if you keep having futile conversations.

The obvious first step is to reduce the small talk as much as possible.

When the social event lasts longer than you had hoped, visualization meditation is your holy grail.

Visualization meditation helps you realize your intent with every conversation you are about to have. You figure out the main goal of your presence at the event.

Introverts are known for taking their time to process things before taking action. Visualization meditation enhances that part of us.

Intent gives you direction throughout the interactions and eliminating uncertainties is one way to reduce the nervousness and awkwardness associated with unplanned introductions and interactions.

Mantra meditation involves affirmations. The words you say to yourself can build or destroy your confidence.

Uplifting affirmations before and during social interactions can help build your confidence. Increased confidence can help you reduce self-consciousness, and in turn, nervousness.

Reducing nervousness is the first step to building the confidence you need to interact socially. Noticing when your energy depletes and finding healthy ways to cope with that when retreating is not an option, is exactly what you need to soldier through social events successfully.
