Humanity today is battling against the pandemic created by Coronavirus. We rarely have any idea of what the future holds. Every single breath is full of fear and doubt. “Will it ever end? Will humanity survive? Will we be able to find a cure before humans are wiped-off in huge numbers?” These are some of the questions tormenting the world.

“When opportunity knocks all some people can do is complain about the noise.” — Bill Maher

If you are not a medical professional or in a profession which enables you to fight coronavirus from the forefront, the only help you can do is to stay at home. Staying at home, is it a boon or a bane? Bhagavad Gita informs us that determination in the mode of ignorance doesn’t go beyond dreaming, fearfulness, lamentation, moroseness and illusion(Bhagavad Gita 18.35). And because mind loves negativity, it overwhelms our thoughts with a lot of negativity and makes us determined to hold onto these negative feelings, making our life more miserable.

“Focus on the solution, not on the problem.” — Jim Rohn

While we can’t help much the world outside, we can focus on the world within. We need to shift our focus on what we can do (circle of influence) rather than focussing on things beyond our control. Bhagavad Gita 18.33 urges us to be determined to control the activities of the mind, life and senses (mode of goodness). Our mind will pull us towards negativity, but using intelligence, we need to pull it in the right direction.

“Opportunities are like sunrises. If you wait too long, you miss them.” — William Arthur Ward

In life, we often wait for situations to have a break so that we can focus on our dreams, goals and passion. The bad news is, many parts of the world are locked down. Good news is, now is the best time! This time can be utilized for introspection, for planning the future, for self-development, for reading books etc. Now is the time to read the book you always wanted to! Now is the time to spend more time with family! Now is the time for meditation! Let’s not focus on something I can’t help, but on what I can become during this lockdown. It’s time to shift from problem conscious mindset to solution conscious mindset.

And as one of the living entities inhabiting this planet, it is our duty to do what we can to help others. In this time of crisis, one help we can offer to the world is our prayers to the Lord. We are in crisis because of our wrong deeds, because of not obeying the laws of the Supreme. Let’s utilize this time to connect to our Supreme Father and pray to Him for the world peace to be restored again. Let’s unite human endeavours with divine blessings for faster recovery from this pandemic.

In summary, make the best use of this precious time for self-development and to reconnect to the divine. Whatever be our religion, let’s pray for the peace to be restored.
