Hello there! Everyone has a story. This is mine.
Early days
I grew up in Hong Kong. I am the eldest. My parents worked their butts off to make ends meet. We did not have much luxury but we were provided with a roof, food and education.
Whenever I got asked what I wanted to be I did not have a clue. My usual answer was like what society expected, a high-paid profession like a doctor. I was a nerd and did not know how to interact with other kids. Part of it was because I stayed home most of the time after school and on school holidays. There was very little exposure to interacting with people apart from attending school. I always felt like I was a square peg to a round hole.
Getting to a University in Hong Kong at the time was highly competitive. I barely passed my public exams. I remembered my mom crying when she knew what the disappointing results I got. I felt like a failure. I was so ashamed that I did not attend my high school graduation. I had a friend who went to New Zealand to study and he loved it. He said life in New Zealand was way better. I got curious and did some investigation. I knew I had to get better results if I could be accepted to New Zealand universities. I got a part-time job and earned enough money to pay for the examination cost. This time…
