For years and years, from when I was still in school, through to university and post-graduate degrees, jobs and a period of unemployment even, I have had an itch to write. I didn’t know what exactly, still don’t know the specifics, but I’ve finally put my fingers down to tap the necessary set of keys to create a Medium account and start writing this “about me”.

I am a woman in my early 30s. A scientist on a working day, adventurer at all other times, where I define “adventurer” very, very broadly. My adventures sometimes happen on my desk with pen and paint, or as an experiment in the kitchen developing unique (mostly delicious!) plant-based recipes, or else in the garden as I refuse to give up on subtropical plants in a temperate climate. Every now and again, I do find myself running or hiking up a hill too, usually in the comfy company of my husband.

What can I say? I enjoy doing lots of things and it’s only recently that I’ve realized that that’s not a bad thing after all!

Oprah said, “You can have it all. Just not all at once.”

Another way of looking at these powerful words is:

“You can do anything you want. Just not everything at once.”

We don’t always have the opportunity to pursue a specific interest because something is lacking. This could be anything — time, money, skill, access to learning or even patience and state of mind, or… any of a bazillion other factors and resources. But just because we may not have an essential tool now does not mean we may never get hold of it.

For me, until now, it was a sense of safety that felt out of reach and prevented me from putting my self out in today’s highly digital world and further, confidently sell my skills or talents to make a living (particularly when I couldn’t rely on getting a regular job based on my formal training).

If you noticed from my profile name and image (which are a pen-name and a Snapchat avatar, respectively), I am still not quite out of my shell. But in this path of self-actualization, understanding and acceptance is key. And that was the catalyst in effectively getting me out of a functional freeze and into creative action.

So, here I am now — with a fresh outlook and zest to try something new. (Sounds like a cross-genera transformation from human to lemon, but I assure you, I’m still only human.) More specifically, I am trying to navigate the landscape of finding financial freedom through e-commerce via monetization of what I know and what I can do. As I explore and find my way, I would love to share what I learn and how I earn with you. That is what I have decided to begin writing about. Remember, I’ve always wanted to write?

Let me reveal a bit more about this personal finance goal and what sparked it — The other day, I was scrolling through my phone calendar (is it just me or does anybody else have that obsessive habit?) and it hit me that my current job contract will end in just under 30 months. Seen that way, two and a half years is really not a very long period of time. Don’t get me wrong. I absolutely love scientific research but there’s so much more I want out of my life! What this mean is that this, right now, is the beginning of my brand-new adventure in search of a way to fund and fuel all of my future, dream adventures!

A 33-year old woman on a 30-month exploration of means and methods to owning her own time and space. From lifestyle habits to personal development, entrepreneurial ventures to community building, there’s a double rainbow’s range of topics I have lined up worthy of your reading.

So follow along, because

Words are what I have at my fingertips in this race to freedom. Words that I now offer you. I hope you find them wise.
