About Me — The Tracks of my Tears
In the bitter aftermath of a break up, the soundtrack I had on repeat
It's been a long time — 30 years — since my first marriage collapsed. The 1975 have much more recently put their finger on it: “I don’t regret it but I’m sad that we’re through” (The Sound) and boy was I sad.
So I struggled on drinking a bottle of wine a night for an unhealthy long time and listening to a playlist of tracks that I still cannot hear without a flashback to that lowest point of my adult life. Here’s my list.
Julia Fordham is a superb UK singer-songwriter who had a clutch of minor hits and one big single, Manhattan Skyline, in the US. But it was her track “Falling Forward” that I had on repeat ….
“I’ve been living on wishes, living on wishes all my life
And I wish I could make one
To make everything in your world right
I’m falling forward while you wait behind
Lost for your reasons and missing your time”
