So, tell me about yourself.
Instantly, my body freezes as it fills with dread. My chest tightens, a knot forms in my throat, and my eyes dart back and forth desperate to find a way to escape.
I’m 29 and still this question fills me with dread.
There is so much shame attached to my journey and who I am that I’ve spent most of my life hiding and trying not to be seen.
But that doesn’t mean I don’t want to know about you. I’d love to know about you . . . but just don’t ask me about me.
My coworker said it the best, “I love my job because I get to talk all day, but I don’t have to talk about myself.”
