Don’t Judge a Book by Its Cover before You Read the Pages of its Story
I wonder where all the suiters were flocking to my door when I was waiting for my prom date in high school. Now that I have aged a little since then, I feel I am only pursued for the beautiful features that collectively make me accepted by society’s standards.
At 29 years old I see the hill curving over where I haven’t accomplished the dreams of building a family or having children. Yet, I have accomplished other life goals like earning my college degree and beginning my master’s degree. I speak 4 languages and excel in the arts through music, singing, and dance. I am also a master budgeter so if I ever wanted to change my career outside of the humanities I could go into accounting.
Yet my baby face makes me feel overlooked by many of my peers and those twice my age as someone ignorant but yet every day I decide to wake up and gracefully accept my baby face after a long day. I reluctantly look in the mirror and wipe away makeup that adds 7 years to my 15-year-old appearance and I wonder if I would ever get respect without an ounce of makeup on.
I feel I have to work harder for the consideration of my peers and men. Even so, once I dress my face to enhance my facial features and dress in a way that accentuates my Latina curves I feel as if I am objectified and viewed as a…
