On a sunny early January day in Asheville, NC, High Five Coffee was quickly brewing up specialty roast coffees and espressos for all of their patrons. Situated in the heart of Appalachia, in the Pisgah National Forest, High Five boasts as a top contender in Asheville as best cup of specialty Jo.

The secret is in their craft and coffee beans. High Five hires experienced baristas who possess great knowledge about coffee bean oils, temperature, grind size, and water.

The next secret lies in their roast brand, Counter Culture Coffee.

If you remember from the midterm, Counter Culture is the fabled roaster and provider that famous Charlotte coffee shop Not Just Coffee uses and sells.

High Five operates in three locations in the greater Asheville area. One of which is located on the banks of the French Broad River in a quaint barn-resembling building.

Not Just Coffee employee and Counter Culture supporter Woo Jeon boasts high praise for High Five’s work in the coffee industry, as the best coffee shop in Asheville — a little bias? Maybe, but Jeon knows the trade.

Each barista undergoes written and practical tests before they can operate on the work floor, ensuring quality to anyone who comes in.

With a rotating pour over selection, consistency is still key to the perfect cup. The baristas are well qualified and have a keen eye.

Espresso blends are consistently the same on the menu.

So come on in, grab a hot drink, high five (and tip) your barista and enjoy the natural sunlight peering in through the large window face of the downtown location.

Tweet: If you high five a barista the first cup is on the house…not quite, but come check out High Five Coffee in downtown AVL or on the river! https://medium.com/abs-blog/the-one-with-the-high-five-d08ccb9ffbc0
