Coffee shops all seem to have a collective atmosphere — if you have been to one you have been to them all, right? Well, no, literally and figuratively. Methodical Coffee of Greenville, S.C., is a two-story loft with coffeehouse sensation.

Greenville, S.C. is located in the Appalachian foothills nestled just 63 miles south of Asheville on I-26 and just three hours northeast of Atlanta, making it a hotspot for coffee-loving millennials.

With 75 percent 5-star rating on Yelp, you know you’re in for a sweet, or caffeinated treat! Their selection of espressos ranges across the globe from Guatemala to Ethiopia, dark to light roasts.

One of their most famous pour-overs in the store is the Ethiopian Natural Gujil, which is said to be ‘a glistening diamond in the crown jewels of Ethiopian coffee.’

When I went to Methodical coffee in February, I did not know about their Ethiopian coffee, despite Ethiopian being my favorite blend of coffee. I elected the Guatemala Ixlama coffee on pour-over with a fair chocolatey flavor.

To extract flavors properly from coffee, brewing process matters. A pour over as depicted above draws the water through the entirety of the grounds drawing the flavor through and down into the decanter.

This is a popular way in the coffee world to brew a premier cup of coffee and everything matters from the amount of water and grounds used to the heat of the cup when you pour.

For every eight ounces of coffee to drink, you would need 275 grams, yes grams, of water.

Methodical does it right, their flavors are true. If you’re ever in Greenville, S.C. and need caffeine, slide on into Methodical and they’ll take care of you.
