This month, during our Open House where we welcomed ACE families to our new home at 51 Gage St, ACE staff member Jp Perkins and student Attahir presented a special gift to ACE’s Co-Founder and Executive Director Kaska Yawo. The gift included a framed list from approximately ten years ago.

Back then, ACE primarily offered After School tutoring for youth and rented out space where the team could find it. We knew we wanted to expand, so we decided to host a retreat. During the retreat where ACE staff, Board members, and families discussed ACE’s future, participants asked and answered the question “What are our dreams?”

At the Open House, Jp and Attahir, alongside staff member and translator Timon Dhego, read aloud the answers:

Two-three 15-passenger vans
Our own center (our own building)
Open doors 7 days a week
Lots of programs for kids
Programs for parents
Our graduates in colleges and with good professions
A strong and united community ready to join forces in the name of children’s education

If you’ve followed our work up to this point, then you may have a smile across your face right now. As Jp pointed out, “We’ve met almost all these dreams.”

We share this story with you, ACE supporters, because we look back on this list knowing that we could not have reached this point without your tremendous generosity. Thank you for helping us achieve those dreams from ten years ago. Thank you for allowing us to reach a point where we can set and go after more dreams.
