Changing Technology in the Workplace

When I think of working in the business world, I immediately think of Microsoft Excel and how useful it is. Just a decade ago it could have been completely different. Technology and new programs are being developed faster and faster in this day and age. One of my fellow students, who is also studying adaptability, wrote in a blog post, “Modern business changes so much in terms of technology and ideology that you must be able to change your work and evolve it to continue staying relevant and keeping up with the needs of your customers.” Providing customers with the best experience and materials using the technology we have is crucial to a business’ success. If another company is doing something to enhance and make the consumer’s experience easier, they are putting themselves at a competitive edge. It is imperative that we learn how to adapt to these new and ever changing technologies. I’ve had to adapt to new programs and tools at my workplace in the past year in order to stay on top of my work. This included new pallet jacks, forklift operations, computer programs, and other tools. It hasn’t always been easy but since we live in such a technologically advanced society, there are lots of sources on the internet to learn from. Adaptability doesn’t and shouldn’t have to come from trial and error. Know your weaknesses and strengths and use those in order to help you adapt to the situation at hand. Knowing how you usually fail and why, will allow you to better understand how you can adapt in order to achieve success in the situation. In order to get a job, we need to know how to adapt. An employer will be willing to finance someone who can interpret a situation and bring in positive results.
