Sonar Media 2010–2013
Florida — USA
Founders — Brett Martin and Daniel Klaus
Raised US$200.000

Sonar was commercial micro-blogging service for companies to communicate internally.

Main Reasons for Failure

- Market Fit: The company struggled to find a market fit through feedback from users. The users asked for LinkedIn integration, but there was no effect when added. A map feature for check-ins was also requested, and when it was not implemented, they stopped sharing updates from Sonar.

-Customer Acquisition: Too much time spent on Methods that did not work, including events, big brands requests, side projects and focusing on their competitors.

-Incubation: Issues in the Incubator created a diffusion of responsibilities, ambiguity, confusion, and tension which lead to a lack of funding.

Nowadays

Brett Martin has co-founded Switch (job search app), was an Entrepreneur in Residence at Primary Venture Partners and now is the co-founder of Charge Ventures and an adjunct professor at Columbia University.

Daniel Klaus is a co-founder/Chairman at Fingerprint, Managing Partner/CEO of K2 Labs and President of AirTime.
