Taking Pictures in Chinese Costumes

After we took photos in kimonos, Yuki thought it would be a great idea if we could do a photoshoot in Chinese costumes too. We didn’t have time when we were in Bangkok earlier this year during Chinese New Year celebrations, so we shelved it for when we returned at the end of our trip. The time finally came just 3 days before we were scheduled to leave, and we found the time to go to a Chinese temple on the other side of town to take some photos.

The sun was a blistering 41 degrees, which made the granite tiles like hot plates that burned the soles of our feet as we bounded around barefoot, jumping between shadows.

I set up the camera and the composition, and Yuki’s cousin served as our photographer to push the shutter button. Unfortunately we didn’t spend long at the temple for two reasons. When we started taking photos at the top we were told off for being too professional and needed a permit. We were able to reason with them, but they also didn’t want any signs of affection since it was a Buddhist site. At the same time, we’d received a call that Yuki’s grandmother was being rushed to the hospital in an ambulance, so we decided to head back home.

Nonetheless, the photos turned out pretty good. I’m still looking forward to doing a Thai costume photoshoot because I really like the look. It probably won’t happen this trip, but it’s something I’d like to try on a future trip to Bangkok.
