Have you ever been in a situation where you have been assigned a task that needs to be delivered ASAP but you have no clue whatsoever what purpose it is serving and why you do it? That feeling of frustration and anxiety gets the best of you and often times it leads to poor performance and uncertainty. Have you ever considered this might be an everyday struggle for your team’s members?

Good product management ensures that all teams and professionals within an organization have clear goals, know what they are doing and why they are doing it, they feel valued and in control. All these things help professionals be more productive and content within the organization.

It is not a surprise that design systems are so popular these days, as they provide designers and developers with a common framework and knowledge in which they can collaborate seamlessly and provide a consistent end product.

Back to good product management, according to Tony Hsieh’s book “Delivering Happiness: A Path to Profits, Passion, and Purpose” organizational happiness derives from the following:

  1. Progress: It is really important for professionals to know they are progressing through their work. Keeping a roadmap that states clearly all the steps from the start till the completion of a project ensures that all team members have a clear vision of where they are going and what progress they’ve made.
  2. Purpose: Why we are doing this is often a challenge when building a product. Product managers need to work in advance in order to provide the answers to questions that might arise. Of course, a clear strategy is always key!
  3. Control: It is very important for all team members to feel that they are contributing effectively on a daily basis. This means that a product manager should set clear objectives and also inspire team members by highlighting other areas they can contribute in and thus make them feel in control.
  4. Connection: Making each team member feel valued, heard and appreciated is probably the most important task for a product manager! This sense of union helps teams and organizations feel connected and thus helps build a strong organization culture. See here some team building games that will help your team get closer!

At Agile Actors, we strongly believe that good product management is the key to organizational happiness, as this is what makes our teams run smoothly. We hope this article inspired you!
