Concept Statement / Value Proposition

First Version: Underart(TBD name) is a mobile app which helps visitors understand contemporary art better by giving people clear and accessible art work interpretation, and encourage visitors to shout out their opinions base on understanding.

Iteration1: My app helps art enthusiasts understand contemporary artworks better via breaking down the academic interpretations into conversational dialogue and encouraging opinions expressions to the public.

Iteration 2: ArtBlast(TBD name) is a digital service to help contemporary art enthusiasts understand artworks through virtual guide Kiki who provides customized/ digestible interpretations conversation based user’s choices and spark users conversations of contemporary art.

Overview

Spart demystifies contemporary art in a personal, conversational experience that quickly shows me the nuance and meaning behind the artist’s choices. Kiki, the virtual curator, guides visitors through each piece’s context and fosters conversations with other patrons in the space. People use Spart to have informed, meaningful exchanges about the art and its meaning, and how it relates to our [everyday lives | personal experience].

Target User

Who Need: contemporary art enthusiasts

But: the interpretations(wall tags) too academic and long to understand.

My offering is: conversational digital guide that break the interpretations down into digestible sections.

Including: Interpretations, opinions sharing and exhibitions extended knowledge learning…

That: Notifications interactions, conversational interface

Which: personalized conversational guidance without time and cost limitations.

Problem

Contemporary art is a good way to stimulate visitors’ conversations and reflections of our society problems and our life, but contemporary art is abstract and metaphorical. So interpretation is super important to help people understand artworks.

However, existing Wall tags are too academic to understand, besides, for contemporary artworks interpretations are full of professional terminologies. And unified content may not entice each visitor interests to talk about the artworks. How to break through these problems?

How it works

Digital screen design as an outcome. It will be used in art exhibition experience.This is design for visitors who are interested in art works and want to know about more meaning of art works. I would use an art exhibition to show my app, let visitors use it.

Users will get concise level interpretations via the notification system based on indoor positioning system. Starting a chat with virtual guide via the app, the user would get deeper meaning of artworks based on their personal interests choices. ArtBlast helps visitors through confuse to understand of artworks, then encourages visitors opinion expressions with other people who are viewing the artworks as well because talk about contemporary art is matter.

My Design Approach

Research, prototype, user testing, design, program the app. I already did the first version design prototype, next two weeks(12.1–12.15) is my prototype test stage. Based on test feedback, I would make an iteration before winter break. From Jan to Feb, I will test more and design one more iteration. After this, I will need a developer to help me make the app which can be used in a real way.

Goal

To create a conversational journey to spark visitors conversations because contemporary art need to be talked and talking about.

Goal: My app aims to enrich viewers’ exhibitions experience, offering a deeper, comprehension and metaphorical interpretation system. Also the app which fosters greater understanding of the idea behind of contemporary art.

What kind of art:

1. The art work should have back meaning which need show the interpretation to audience to make them understand.

2. The back meaning(the topic)should related to our general daily life.

Competitive Analysis:

Unlike existing real person guid in museum, my solution is personalized, free and without schedule limitation.

Financial Benefit

To Museums: Increase in the number of visitors by giving them an edifying experience. Museums can have an excellent product to educate visitors on contemporary art.
To Visitors: Have a pleasant and fluent visiting experience and learn more about contemporary art.
To Art marketing: There are a diversity of opinions from the general public instead of only from professional critique. Artworks would have more value standard to evaluate.
