Expanding Possibilities: ChatGPT Introduces Web and Plugin Access for Subscribers

With this new version of ChatGPT, users can access the latest data from the web and integrate plugins.

OpenAI Deploys Features in Beta Version

New step for ChatGPT! OpenAI announces that users of its paid plan, named ChatGPT Plus, have the privilege of previewing new features:

  • ChatGPT on the web: this is a new version of ChatGPT where the chatbot is able to understand that it needs to search the web to answer certain questions, like those about recent events for example.
  • The integration of plugins to ChatGPT: the chatbot can now use plugins from third-party applications, activated beforehand (it is possible to activate only 3 plugins at a time for the moment).

These new features sound like a response to Google, which has just deployed Bard, its competitor to ChatGPT, in more than 180 countries. This chatbot has access to web data to answer users’ questions.

This is not the first benefit given by OpenAI to those who subscribe to its paid plan. Last March, the American firm unveiled GPT-4, its new AI model, making it available only to ChatGPT Plus subscribers. This move by OpenAI represents a strategy to encourage subscription, with the aim of generating revenue to cover the costs of this technology.

How to Access the Web navigation and Plugins on ChatGPT

For early access to the web browser and plugins on ChatGPT:
1. Click on the 3 small dots at the bottom left,
2. Select Settings,
3. Click on Beta features and activate the 2 options.

Good to know: OpenAI says that these new features will be rolled out to all subscribers during this week. If you don’t have the options, you’ll have to be patient for a few more days.

What are the plugins for ChatGPT?

At the end of March, OpenAI presented the plugins for ChatGPT. These are strategic partnerships with leading companies in their field. Some examples: Expedia, KAYAK, Instacart, OpenTable, Shop, Klarna Shopping, Wolfram, Speak, Milo Family AI, FiscalNote, Zapier, etc.

These partnerships respond to a goal of the firm: to offer an increasingly relevant and comprehensive user experience. At the same time, OpenAI also unveiled its β€œin-house” plugins: Browsing for web browsing and Code interpreter to use the Python language.

In total, there are now 70 plugins available in the dedicated store. You can find the list of the last released plugins in this tweet (or on the ChatGPT store if you are a ChatGPT Plus subscriber).
