The weekend has sadly come to an end and so did the Blockchain Pioneers Hackathon 2018, the first of a global series organized by DECENT — a company which, together with Dragonfly, co-founded ALAX. If you are now picturing George Clooney and his eleven hacking the DCore blockchain platform, you will probably be slightly disappointed. Unfortunately, none of these Hollywood stars could make it. Yet, the event hosted different kind of stars — the future blockchain superstars.
Five teams of young blockchain enthusiasts were competing in order to win 20,000 DCT (DECENT’s own altcoin) by solving an existing problem using the DCore blockchain platform. During approximately 30 hours, the teams had to develop a viable product and then present it in front of DECENT’s jury.
The winning team came from Serbia (although they collaborated with a backend developer from Slovakia) and pitched its marketing platform, called Werbifi, designed to sell advertisements on public Wi-Fi captive portals. And they truly nailed it. Werbifi implemented the blockchain technology into their existing project for one simple reason — it made perfect sense.
The hackathon brought plenty of workshops and talks…
…networking…
…snacking…
…and fatigue.
Apart from the winning solution, the other teams were trying to solve issues in various areas such as academic networking, food ingredient tracking services, fake news or the car sales marketplace. It was impressive to see what a great job the teams didin such a short timespan considering not only backend, but also frontend development. Even though the presented projects were, in some cases, rather visionary, we would love to see their application in our day-to-day life.
