Last year was a landmark year for AltConf. For the first time in our history, we introduced an event that happened outside of California, in the form of our AltConf London event.

London 2018 was a huge success, however wasn’t without flaws, which we have listened to and used to inform our plans for this year. We heard from attendees that including a panel discussion late at night after over 2 hours of a keynote viewing was challenging for them to stick around for, however everyone loved the community feel of watching the Keynote live stream on a big screen!

But most of all, we saw that our vision to bring the WWDC experience to communities outside of the San Jose experience was a valid one, with many people choosing not to make the trip to the US for various reasons each year.

In 2019, we’ll be hosting another event in London, evolving it into a single day conference, culminating with a keynote viewing event in the evening. We’re also going to make things even better for everyone not travelling to California, or based in and around London.

Our goal has always been to bring the AltConf experience to as many people as possible. So for 2019, we are hosting a number of other one day conference events, bringing AltConf to communities throughout Europe. You’ll be able to join us at AltConf London, Madrid, Paris and Berlin. Each will be a unique, one day conference, run and curated by local community volunteers, taking into account the local community to put on the best event possible. There are more details on each event below.

A note on tickets

Traditionally, AltConf has always been an event that is free to attend, and we want to try to continue this as much as possible. However, since this is not only a new event for us, but four entirely new events, we’re choosing to charge a nominal fee to attendees of the daytime conference. This is to cover costs of venue hire, AV, etc while we build the events and get sponsors on board. It will also allow us to ensure that we can continue to put on events in subsequent years, giving us the confidence to book venues and make plans while limiting our risk.

AltConf London will be hosted in the Vaults in Waterloo, an amazing venue with lots of space for expansion!
