Rewind-play-rewind: CueMusic makeover

Ideas are everywhere

As a hobbyist dancer and an occasional performer some time ago I’ve been working on a tango choreography. I happened to have a super talented dance partner who came up with the choreography getting inspired by different segments of the selected music and in a different order. At each rehearsal we’d play endless “rewind-play-rewind” game. We’ve mastered partially successful marking ability for each segment using the players we could find.

None of the available players however did suffice.

So, I made an app for it

CueMusic — Segmenting audio player.

Mark and play back parts of your favourite songs with ease!

Perfect for choreographers, dancers, composers, instructors, students, karaoke lovers and any music enthusiast looking for a better way to cue up custom song segments for review and practice.

The app was listed at a fee with a sibling Lite version along the side. This let users experience the functionality prior to making a decision to invest in a full version.

All new, expanded and improved

2 years have passed as I acted as an observer to this creature of mine. Suddenly I noticed a spike in downloads despite the app’s quite outdated implementation. Users have been reaching out with feedback, suggestions and troubleshooting requests. And I took it as an indicator of a sustained interest in the app.

I was also pleased to discover while the app was originally created for music lovers, it’s expanded its applications serving audiobook and podcast listeners, language learners, transcript creators and actors.

And here it is, all new, expanded and improved. The new version incorporates the feedback received so far. Here’re the key benefits:

  • Easily select in and out points in a song from your playlist — Media library or Files
  • Add custom cover image to your working tracks
  • Perform a quick multi-split on tracks and segments to speed up start of your project
  • Add custom labels to your tracks and segments
  • Play segments individually or in sequence
  • Slow down or speed up playback
  • Loop individual segments
  • Count down delay

To simplify the process I’ve decided to retire the Lite version of CueMusic and make the primary version free to download. It presents the exact same functionality as the Lite version to start and offers an option to unlock for an upgrade.

I look forward to making more connections with the users and continue improving the app.

Available on the App Store: CueMusic

If you decide to download the app — feel free to get in touch, I’d very much appreciate your feedback!
