With the launch of Ash Beta we received a lot of questions on Ash Versus and how it will evolve as we enter the next phase of development. So we’ve put together a summary of features that you are able to test today in Beta mode as well as others that are currently in development and will be coming soon.

Let’s begin!

What is Ash Versus?

Ash basically consists of two layers. The first layer is the asset management tool that allows you to manage your own mix of tokens. A mix is your own portfolio allocation of ERC20 tokens with a trackable performance on chain. You can adjust the mix whenever you like by trading! All of this is possible by reaching into your pocket and pressing a few buttons. What? That’s right, we’ve brought Melon to mobile phones through Ash! Aside from trading ERC20 tokens, you can also copy other mixes on Ash. If you are copying someone else’s mix, you are typically subject to a fee. Similarly, if somebody is copying yours — you can charge a fee thereby monetising your management skills (read Chapter 2 of this blog for more info about copying).

The second layer to Ash is Versus mode which allows users to directly compete against one another by comparing their mix performances in so-called ‘Challenges’. Apart from a fun experience, there are two main reasons for using the Versus mode and playing challenges:

  1. The Ash prize pool — rewards users who constantly win challenges and maintain a high level
  2. Visibility and distinction from others — the more challenges you win, the higher your levels. The higher your level, the higher the prize pool. The higher your level and ranking, the more people will see you and possibly copy your mix creating revenue for you.

Ranking, prizes, levels… What? Let’s dig a bit deeper now and get into details!

Ranking

Your position within the main ranking (on your Ash home screen click on the hashtag button) is calculated based on your mix performance and shows your position among all users on Ash. So if your asset mix performs well you will climb up the ranking. Since your position in the ranking (as well as your trading history) is always visible to all other users on Ash, it allows them to decide if they trust in your skills and if they want to copy your mix. In Ash Beta the calculation of the ranking can still be buggy.

Levels, XP & Prize Pool

If you have a competitive streak in you, enjoy the thrill of trading, and want to put your money where your mouth is — the Versus mode is for you. In Versus, you will get access to the Ash prize pool which is distributed at the end of each season (more on seasons you’ll find below). To understand the Versus mode, challenges, and the prize pool, let’s start with three basic rules:

1. The amount of prize money you can win is determined by your level

2. Your level is determined by how many XP you have

3. You earn or lose XP by winning and losing challenges

In every challenge you play, you and your opponent stake a fixed amount of XP which will go to the winner (we provide you with XP when you sign up and start your mix). By winning challenges and earning more XP you rise up to the next level. The level system goes from 1–10 and each level is assigned a portion of the prize pool that is emptied at the end of a season. For example:

Level 1: 10,000 DAI;

Level 2: 25,000 DAI;

Level 3: 50,000 DAI… and so on.

Within each level, users again get ranked according to their performance (like in the main ranking) and the best ranking players within each level win rewards from the prize pool. For example:

Level 1:

1st place receives 5,000 DAI;

2nd place receives 3,000 DAI;

3rd place receives 1,000 DAI;

4th place receives 650 DAI;

5th place receives 350 DAI;

Level 2:

1st place receives 11,000 DAI;

2nd place receives 7,000 DAI;

3rd place receives 4,000 DAI;

4th place receives 2,000 DAI;

5th place receives 1,000 DAI;

… and so on.

That means that in order to win a prize you do not only have to earn XP, but you also need to have a good mix performance. That way, we guarantee that nobody can just buy their way up into winning prizes by purchasing a lot of XP (you can also buy XP in the Ash shop to maintain a higher level).

Important: To really dominate the Versus mode and bring home the high prizes, you will need to manage your mix in a profitable way.

Seasons

Prizes are distributed during “Seasons” which will last between 4–8 weeks. Before a season starts, you receive a notification with the option to join. At the moment there are no prizes available in Ash Beta. The first season (Beta Tournament) will start in 2020 on Kovan test-net. During the Beta Tournament more tokens are likely to be made available for trading. If you are already a Beta user you will receive a notification before the Beta Tournament starts.

Challenges

You can start a challenge by going through the ranking or using the search and selecting another user and swiping them. A challenge is basically a comparison of two mix performances over a certain time period. If you set up the challenge you can choose a time frame (during Beta restricted to 3 or 24 hours) as well as a couple of other parameters. If your opponent accepts the challenge, it’s on! If someone wants to challenge you, you will receive a notification that shows the proposed parameters. With that notification you can either accept or decline a challenge. Apart from challenge duration, another important parameter are “Power-Ups”.

Power-Ups

Power-Ups are tools that can be used to influence the course and outcome of a challenge. You can either use them to influence your own or your opponent’s performance, independent of the actual performance. Power-Ups can definitely spice up the challenge experience and make outcomes more unpredictable. Some examples for Power-Ups are:

  • Performance Blocker: decreases the opponent’s performance by X%
  • Performance Booster: increases the own performance by X%
  • Asset Blocker: excludes the opponent’s best performing assets from overall performance
  • Asset Booster: increases rating of own best performing asset by X%
  • Time Booster: challenge duration increases by X hrs
  • Time Reductor: challenge duration decreases by X hrs
  • Power-Up Block: Next Power-Up used by opponent fails

Before accepting a challenge, you can decide if you want to enable Power-Ups. They can be purchased in the Ash store and they will be be distributed for certain mini achievements (like setting up your first mix, uploading a profile pic etc.). Power-Ups are not available in the Beta, yet.

Try it!

You can join the Beta right now and send out some challenges.
