Asian Leaders Alliance!

by Jimmy Hua on May 12, 2021

It is halfway through the month of May. May is a special month for our community. It is Asian American and Native Hawaiian / Pacific Islander Heritage Month (AANHPI). This last year and the last few centuries have been difficult for our communities. It is extremely important that our communities stand in solidarity with each other while uplifting and giving each other the voices to speak up. We are something that a single word or phrase can define easily.

Our ERGs may represent one, multiple, or all of the communities in the Asian, Native Hawaiian / Pacific Islander; we all want similar things. We want “Equal Respect” and “Equitable access to opportunities” for all. We also want to give spaces and allow the voices of the communities to be able to be represented and respected. There are about 100 countries and over 300 ethnicities in the AANHPI. And we need to remember that we don’t just represent one, but we represent many. And we need to be “Intentionally Inclusive” and acknowledge the different communities we serve and represent.

The White House released a “Presidential Actions” on “A Proclamation on Asian American and Native Hawaiian / Pacific Islander Heritage Month, 2021”.

Many of you have been hosting events and sharing them with others. Our community works because of all of the efforts that everyone has done, and the giving back to the community. Many events have been open to all of you, your peers, and your own ERG members of your company. If you have an event to share with everyone or you want to see what events you can attend and share with your own community, there two ways to find out.

  1. View and add your event to the community calendar https://www.asianleadersalliance.com/community-calendar.html
  2. View and post your event to the ALA Slack #event-announcement

invisaWear Discount for ALA members!

by Kim Chu on May 10th, 2021

Like everyone else, I became gravely concerned with my parents’ safety amidst the rise of violence on our community, especially our elders. In my search for safety products, I came across invisaWear. It’s a POC and woman-owned company that specializes in safety jewelry that works internationally in 200+ countries. With the press of a button, the device will allow you to alert 911/emergency services and/or text your contacts with your GPS location. invisaWear has been so kind and gave us a discount code for ALA members. If any of you are interested in buying this for you, your friends, family, etc., the discount code is ASIANLEADERSALLIANCE and it’s for 20% off. Their charms (the actual safety device) is about $120 and they also have accessories to pair it with.

Give In May | Revitalizing Our Community

During the month of May, we hope to bring our community together by being part of the Give In May campaign and partnering with amazing local Southeast Asian entrepreneurs to raise funds for nonprofits like ours in honor of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. Funds raised will support at-risk youth, low-income families, and immigrants, creating independence by building knowledge and confidence.

We are excited to partner with a handful of Southeast Asian entrepreneurs to empower their businesses and support their missions to share our culture. By donating, you will have the opportunity to be eligible for fun prizes and experiences like a virtual cooking class and tons of Southeast Asian munchies!

We’re looking to fundraise $20,000 in order to address the safety of our staff and clients at the Center and to reinforce the essential programs that we provide. You can also help by spreading the word to your loved ones and sharing on social media using the hashtag #GiveInMay. With your support, we believe together we can bring vitality to the Southeast Asian community.
