Five years after the bitcoin launch, we encounter a blooming landscape. In this article, we’ll explore the crypto universe evolution in 2014. A year in which bitcoin price kept declining amidst many scandals, bans and the launch of a few projects that are the leading cryptocurrencies nowadays.

Exchanges Go Busted

2014 brought the beginning of the demise of the infamous exchange Mt. Gox.

A rising number of issues during January and February, especially regarding transaction malleability, made the exchange stopping all bitcoin withdrawals. Of course, this caused the bitcoin price to crash, and protesters started demonstrating outside Mt. Gox offices in Tokyo.

Kolin Burges was probably the first crypto-protester in history.
