In 2019, many crypto enthusiasts still debate whether government intervention is a good or a bad thing. It’s a highly polarising debate.

One of the main reasons behind the development of bitcoin was to undermine hierarchies and substitute governments and laws for horizontal networks and code.

Governments around the world are still getting their heads around cryptocurrencies. Some being more progressive and trying to capitalise the opportunities that this industry brings, while others apply a prohibiting approach.

Most would be surprised that governments have been intervening as early as 2013. In this article, we’ll explore how this happened, and its consequences for the crypto community.
