Hello Guys,

So good to see that a lot of you are following this series. Well, the only motive is to make you aware of everything related to your car. How well can you maintain it, groom it, grow along with it, and obviously how well can you drive it?

So in this chapter #20, I’m taking you through few of the best tips to drive carefully during the rainy season. It’s raining cats and dogs here and I believe many of you must be suffering badly in the traffic.

I can’t do much help in sorting out the traffic issues, but I can definitely help you in making you smarter when you drive during the rains.

1. What shall you do when it is “dense fog?

When the clarity is not there, when it is too dense for you to even see what’s on the road, NEVER EVER turn on your high beams. The high beams might create a glare and impair the visibility even more.

In such a case, you must consider reducing your speed, turn on your low beams, and use the painted lane lines as the guide.

2. And what if you find “snow and freezing weather”?

This one is really tricky. You got to be very smart and very careful while driving during the snow. The icy road conditions might not be visible enough to you. Once your car starts on the patch of ice, you may feel like slamming your brakes very often. But hold on!

In such a case, consider taking your foot off the accelerator and carefully steer in the direction you want the front of the car to go.

3. Do you see “a puddle right in front of you”?

Puddle often creates a mirage. Sometimes you think you can get off it quickly, but other times you’re mostly wrong. Not because, your driving is wrong, but because you can’t assume the depth of the puddle. How bad the road is over there, or even if there is a road there.

In such a case, NEVER EVER DRIVE FAST ENOUGH. Moving fast enough will make you skid your car and that will lead to hydroplaning and this will ultimately lead to a major accident. Be little patient with the puddle, look far off the road, and slow down the moment you see a puddle coming your way.

4. Ok, so you discover “the hot and dry engine spells all over the road”?

Over the time, the engine oil and the grease accumulate on the road, and when the rain arrives, the precipitation makes you slide through it. Dude! Don’t fall into the trap. You got to be smarter.

In such a case, exercise caution. Be very patient with your driving and move slowly. Prevention is better than cure, right? Why would you let the grease make your driving look stupid?

5. A Clever Tip

So you know what happens on the road during the rainy season. You can see the puddle, you can find engine spells, dense fog, snow and all. But a clever way is to follow the car in front of you.Yes, follow the car track at a considerable slow speed.

This will help eliminate any accumulated water on the road, or the spells, or any unforeseen pathway.

Shall I tell you a secret here? During my childhood, I used to follow the people while crossing the road.

6. Never Turn on the “Cruise Control”

Cruise control is a device in the car if turned on, that maintains a constant speed without the use of the accelerator. Very often on a long drive, you may prefer turning it on but it is always recommended to turn it off. This doesn’t help when you drive during the rain. This only helps when the road is dry.

Turning it on increases the chance of hydroplaning. Keep it manual until the rain is over and you’re comfortable on the road.

7. Turn on the “Traction Control”

Traction control in the car optimises grip and stability during acceleration by measuring wheel rotation. If applied, it reduces the engine power, or apply the brakes to the wheel, allowing to accelerate smoothly. This will help you during the rain.

Traction control uses the anti-brake sensors at the wheels to determine if a wheel is slipping. So be smarter, and keep it on.

Thanks for reading! 😊 If you feel 20% smarter, test how many times can you hit 👏 in 5 seconds. This will help other people be equally smart. *Learn & Share*.

Stay tuned for the next lesson in this series.

The more you know, the less you will spend. The more your care, the better your car!
