Hey,

We’re almost close to half of the series and at present we’re on the 23rd chapter that will guide you on the process of getting maximum mileage from your car.

Recently, I’ve been asking people the same question “How do you ensure that you’re getting maximum mileage from your car?” A lot many were not quite sure, and a few others had some limited knowledge. This directed me to include this very important chapter in the series.

So if I ask you the same question “How do you ensure that you’re getting maximum mileage from your car?”, what would you answer? Well, I’m not quite sure how well updated you are but I believe you must go through the rest of the chapter.

Here you go….

1. Optimal Tyre Pressure

Keep a routine checkup of your tyre pressure. A properly inflated tyre can help in achieving maximum fuel efficiency. If the tyre runs on low pressure, it increases the friction between the road and the tyre which in turn increases the fuel consumption to drive the car. Make sure that the tyre is not too much inflated but optimally inflated.

2. A Closed one

Your car’s fuel efficiency also depends on aerodynamics. If you keep your windows open during driving, the tank will drain out quicker due to increased drag. So in order to have maximum fuel efficiency, keep the windows closed and turn on the AC.

3. Gear Up

Do you know that a car consumes more fuel in lowers gears while accelerating? Consider gearing up to the high gear when the car is not pulling. These minor tactful car driving habits can add up to your mileage.

4. Reduce the car weight

Remove any unnecessary luggage, the child safety seat (when not in use). An easy weight car will take lesser fuel to drive and hence will improve the mileage.

5. Switch Off The Engine

Obviously only when not in use. This will save fuel. Even in the traffic when you consider waiting for 5 minutes with your engine on will reduce your mileage considerably low (if you compound it later).

6. Use Engine Braking

If you’re in a top gear and you approach a brake on the road, consider letting off the throttle completely. This lets the car use engine braking to slow down and activates the fuel overrun cut-off that most modern fuel-injected cars come with. This will burn just the minimum amount of fuel.

7. Keep An Eye On Your Gas Cap

The rubber seal of the gas cap degrades over the time and may let the air enter into the gas tank, increasing the amount of air entering into your car’s engine while fuel is drawn from the tank. Because of the increased air, the fuel have to burn up more reducing the overall mileage of the car.

8. Park Your Car In The Shade

Parking your car in the shade will help reducing the evaporative emission of fuel from the tank. The shade will ensure the optimum temperature for the car for the maximum mileage.

9. Avoid Excessive Braking

Don’t brake hard in case of any bump on the road. Consider coasting the car to the red-light in neutral instead of accelerating it until the last moment. Braking hard will consume much fuel for no worth thus reducing the mileage.

10. Use Cruise Control

Cruise control helps your car run at a constant speed. The faster you drive, the more work the engine has to do to drive the car through the air. Driving fast can reduce the fuel efficiency by 33%. Consider keeping the cruise control on smooth roads.
