AWAYTOMARS now works with over 10,000 users over more than 90 different countries, making it one of the most multicultural fashion brands of our time. As a community of designers we co-create all our collections, sharing inspirations and merging cultures together.

This week we’ve had one of our AWAYTOMARS members, Marina Eric, take over our instagram stories from Milan. We’ve caught up with her to find out about her work as a fashion designer. What brands are getting her inspired and who she is following on instagram…

Where do you currently live, and what brought you there?

I am based in Milan where I moved four years ago. After finished Academy studies, I looked for a new experience where I would like to increase my skills and knowledge so Milan comes very naturally as a choice, firstly for my Master studies and after for work experience within diverse fashion brands as well as international collaborations.

Where do you go in the city to get your creative juices flowing?

Milan is very culturally rich city and it’s often enough to take a walk through the city and get inspiration from its architecture, gates, classic Milanese entrance corridors with hidden gardens, glamourous and vintage style of Milanese women and men.

As well as visiting exhibitions — source of information and inspiration.

Who is your biggest creative influence at the moment?

Currently in fashion they are Acne and Raf Simons.

Have you ever worked on a collaborative project before, and if so what did it involve?

Yes. It included a lot of hard work and mutual understanding with a persons who hold different skills and approach to the every day.

Do you feel working with other people increases your creativity? And would you consider collaborating with people from other cultural backgrounds to broaden your design ideas?

The best collaborations come from people of different cultural backgrounds and educations. I love to experiment in my work and to collaborate with people on the creative projects when we could push our boundaries and challenge our ideas to become more forward thinking and comprehensive.

If you could collaborate with any designer/brand, who would it be and what would you create?

Comme des Garçons, both womenswear and menswear.

Who are you favourite people to follow on social media? And how can we find you?

I mainly use Instagram, where I follow my friends, photographers, designers and illustrators such as amazing @buttonfruit and @kellymariebeeman. You can find me under the names @eric_marina and @ma_eric

And lastly, what’s next for you?

I’m always looking for new experiences and more creative cooperation. There are new ongoing projects that I working on.

Marina has also got two of her designs being produced in the AWAYTOMARSSS18 collection! You can watch the launch of our SS18 on instagram live stream during Lisbon Fashion Week, keep an eye on instagram for details closer to the day.
