Popular blockchain game, Axie Infinity, was able to give a glimpse of possible metas once the epic era comes into play during the second season of the Axie Arena.

The second leg of the Axie Infinity Off-Season Invitational kicked off last January 10 with players bringing in more diverse builds. Similar to day 1, each player had a $25 spending limit when choosing their Axies. In the end, it was SpamAndRice’s AOE build winning it all against Mino’s triple aqua dual anemone comp in an exciting finals matchup.

“Everyone here is known in the scene because they are such great players,” SpamAndRice told the Axie Archives. “It’s always a blast competing against my friends! Plus, it’s always fun playing from home. You get to see chat interactions and it is so heart warming to see so many cheer me on. Always grateful, wouldn’t have been selected without the support of my community, I owe it to y’all!”

The epic runes and charms limit gave a glimpse of what the epic era of season 2 can look like. In terms of builds, Wiggles was the only player who used the Belieber beast build from the previous day, TQ Azarian opted for a double tank build that protects his triple Nutcracker dusk, while Nearly built a sustain Perch team. Naoki Asso brought in an energy ramp Perch team, Sarraf opted for a triple Cuckoo with a Koi-Pirannah backline, and Khairru brought the most surprising build of the tournament, a Fury-Perch build.

An Exciting Finals Rematch

Both SpamAndRice and Mino met up during the MMG Axie Master’s League in Manila. Spam was able to get the better of Mino during their match, but Mino had the last laugh as his team won the championship. The two prominent pro players met at the tournament finals to settle the score.

Spam was able to defy the odds during game one as he found himself in a 3v1 hole against Mino’s triple aqua dual anemone team. But he was able to level the playing field after a Tri Feather and Kotaro hit was able to kill Mino’s front and back Axie. Spam survives one last effort from Mino in Turn 15 and escapes with 27 hp left on his last axie. Spam was also able to take the second game thanks to a similar scenario as he was able to knock out two of Mino’s axies at Turn 15, leaving the backline at 146 hp to an almost completely healed backline dawn.

Mino wasn’t going down without a fight. A heavily shielded front Axie protecting Mino’s backline in turn 13 was too much for Spam’s AOE backline to finish off. Mino was able to survive a sweep and scored his first win of the finals, placing the score at two matches to one in favor of SpamAndRice.

A more aggressive SpamAndRice showed up in game 4 with a mavis placement in the early rounds stealing fragmets from Mino, while ramping up his own. With all three of Mino’s axies in red, Spam finished the job in turn 13 to capture the championship.

“I don’t need to tell you now about Spam. He keeps Axie Infinity going and he tries harder than anyone else [in understanding and creating his team],” Mino shared some kind words about Spam. “I am really glad to have been able to compete. The event itself was awesome and happy. However, I am very disappointed with this defeat. I couldn’t take advantage of the opportunities I had. Next time, I will definitely make those who supported me happy next time. I will win. I promise.”

Axie Infinity was able to give us a glimpse of team builds that we can possibly see for the upcoming season, which started today, thanks to this tournament. The community enjoyed this event as much as the players did, and it couldn’t have happened without the creator program and Axie Infinity.
