Thanks to Susan Wheelock for this prompt. You can read her story here.

A truly hilarious story. You will enjoy it!

I was sitting outside this past summer, in the sweltering Texas heat, and recalled some naughty things I did as a child during the long humid summers back in Mississippi. One of the mischievous acts I almost pulled off was when I decided to steal a peach from our neighbor’s tree.

Although only a few peaches were on the tree, I wanted one of them so badly that I tread boldly up to the tree. Gently pulled the delicious-looking fruit and immediately bit into it. I will forever remember the warm, sweet, tart juices that oozed into my ravenous mouth.

To my surprise and disappointment, Miss Irene must have been watching through her kitchen window. She came out on the porch, slamming the door, startling me. Then asked in a loud unkind voice, “Who told you to pick my fruit?” Then went into this tirade about how she only had a few peaches on her tree and was saving them to make preserves.
