Welcome to our Battle Racers Update! In these updates, we’ll share with you the status of the game and how development is going. For this joint update covering October to December, you’ll also get the latest details on an upcoming tournament and a new in-game currency.

The update is divided into the following sections:

  • Tournament Update
  • Build Update
  • Website Update
  • Press and Events Roundup

Tournament Update:

Last October we launched a series of week-long mini tournaments called the Weekly Duels. Players recorded their fastest times on Track 1 during the Qualifier Time Trials, and qualified participants battled it out in 1v1 best-of 3 single elimination brackets in order to win Battle Racers crates and Decentraland wearables.

The Weekly Duels has ended temporarily as we work on improvements in preparation for a much bigger tournament, the Duel Cup Open. Originally announced last year, it will finally commence soon with much more valuable prizes in the form of NFTs and cryptocurrency given Ethereum’s rise in the past months. More details to be announced soon!

Build Update:

Since our last update, we implemented fixes and improvements to the Battle Racers build on both our website and on Decentraland (DCL). Most of these were thanks to player feedback and gameplay observations during the Weekly Duels. This includes revamped leaderboards, cross-realm play, game optimizations, and more (see release notes below).

Meanwhile, we have been laying the groundwork for SCRAP, a new in-game currency that can be earned through racing and salvaging. This can be used to upgrade your car parts and participate in Competitive Races. We’ll share more details in a separate article!

Here are the release notes from our October update:

  • Added default DCL robot avatars for non-visible cross-realm players (making them visible to any other player regardless of DCL realm).
  • Reworked Leaderboard UI to show up to 40 entries both All-time and Weekly.
  • Adjusted Weekly Leaderboard reset every Thursday 8PM GMT.
  • Added Race Results API support (players can now view automated race result reports in the #br-race-results channel in the Battle Racers Discord server).
  • Capped frames per second to 60.
  • Fixed sluggish movement / slow-mo bug.
  • Optimized general performance and lag handling in both EA Build and the DCL arena.
  • Removed millisecond display in lap timers that were causing game performance stutter.
  • Removed all test drive cars except base Hyperion.
  • Fixed skill-related issues such as incorrect icons/names appearing and delayed cooldown animation
  • Other general animation optimizations

Website Update:

Last December, we relaunched our Parts Trading feature, allowing players to transfer Battle Racers car part NFTs from the Matic Network sidechain to the Ethereum Main Network (and back) and sell them on OpenSea.io using ETH or MANA.

This means Season 1 and CryptoKitties items can finally be traded with other players. A portion of the transaction fees from each sale or purchase will be added to the prize pool for future tournaments.

Here is our updated step-by-step guide to parts trading:

This update also fixed problems involving stuck crates and missing car parts. With this feature done, we will continue to make improvements to our Inventory page and work on our new Garage feature which will allow players to easily save their car loadouts.

Press and Events Roundup:

  • October 28: Night mode was introduced in Decentraland as part of their Halloween event.
  • December 9: We prepared a Starter Guide containing all the links you’ll need to play Battle Racers.
  • December 10: Our parts trading feature was relaunched, which means players are now able to transfer Battle Racers NFTs to Ethereum for trading on OpenSea! We also got featured on EGamers.io and Play to Earn.
  • December 10 to 11: We participated in the Cutting-edge Games Conference (CGC|DAPP) with our CEO Gabby as one of the speakers, and by giving away specially minted Common Hyperion Stealth car parts with maxed out base stats and a commemorative description to all CGC|DAPP attendees!
  • December 17: Decentraland was covered in snow as part of their Christmas event.
