A Token of Affection For You
Giving love
He asked — How do you make others feel special?— As I give it a thought, I remember about Tokens, that thing you give as a sign of affection, of love.
One time, in College I gave a present to a friend, I don´t remember what it was, but their response is still fresh, as they saw the present with eyes of surprise they said —And why this?—, — why not? — I said, even more baffled by their reaction. Why not? Why shouldn´t I give them a token of my love for our friendship? Why not make them feel loved and special?
To this day, I still don´t understand why they reacted that way. The only conclusion I have come to is that they were not used to receiving tokens of affection.
That´s OK, that is the thing, as the recipient of love you need to decide if you will accept the token or not, that´s it. You don´t need to reciprocate with another token, that is up to you.
I am a giver, that is one of my languages of love, I always imagine myself like a Crow, giving shiny things and special tokens to other beings as a thank you for being part of my life and, of course, as a way of showing them love.
I am the one who would help you with all the love and patience to learn something you don´t understand.
I am the one who would give you something just to see you smile.
I am the one who wants you to feel loved, and I know I am not alone on this.
I am the one who writes articles giving you a different perspective and maybe a good time, just because.
I love giving and receiving tokens, someone told me once that in ancient times in the north of the world, it was a custom for people as a way of love and respect: if you received a token, you were a part of the tribe.
What a lovely way to make you feel special and important to be a part of the tribe, of the people who love you.
That is what I hope the people who receive my tokens of affection feel: that I love them and that I consider them part of my tribe.
This was inspired by Mike Sansone and his story Giving Special Treatment to Love. He is a true inspiration for me, his articles are always full of love and hope, and there is always what this tender heart needs.
