Introducing the Beam to Ethereum Bridge: A Step-by-Step Tutorial

Earlier this year, Beam released the Beam Bridge, opening up a privacy gateway for the Web3 community for transferring crypto from Ethereum to the private-by-default Beam blockchain.
Now, we’re pleased to unveil the Beam to Ethereum Bridge, completing the bidirectional connection between Beam and Ethereum blockchain for seamless cross-chain transactions.
How the “Beam to Ethereum Bridge” Works
The Beam to Ethereum Bridge operates via a series of smart contracts that lock bridged tokens on the Beam blockchain and subsequently mint a wrapped copy on the Ethereum blockchain.
For example, if you wish to bridge 100 $BEAM to Ethereum, the smart contract will lock these tokens, mint 100 $WBEAM (wrapped $BEAM) on Ethereum, and transfer it to your Web3 Wallet (Like MetaMask).
When you wish to bridge tokens back to Beam, your $WBEAM on Ethereum is sent to the Bridge smart contract, simultaneously burning $WBEAM and unlocking your $BEAM on the Beam blockchain.
The $WBEAM is an ERC-20 token that can be used across all Ethereum dApps like Uniswap.
The Uniswap $ETH/$WBEAM trading pair is available here. The Token ID for $WBEAM is “0xE5AcBB03D73267c03349c76EaD672Ee4d941F499”.
“Beam to Ethereum Bridge” Step-by-Step Tutorial:
- Open the “Beam to Ethereum Bridge” in the Beam Wallet DAPP Store
- Select “Beam to Ethereum”
- Click “1. Ethereum side of the bridge in your web browser”. A pop-up will appear in your browser.
- In your browser, connect MetaMask to the Bridge dApp.
- Approve “BEAM” Token. A MetaMask pop-up will appear. Sign the token approval.
- In your browser, Click “Beam to Ethereum”
- Copy your Ethereum address and paste it into the “Beam to Ethereum Bridge” dApp in Beam Wallet.
- Select the amount you wish to bridge to Ethereum, verify the relayer and transaction fees, and select confirm.
- A small pop-up will appear. Verify the amount (the amount shown will be the bridged amount + relayer fees), and click confirm.
- The “Send funds” pop-up will appear on the bottom-right corner of your Beam Wallet. Click “Show details”.
- Verify the transaction details.
- In ~60 minutes, the bridged funds will appear in your MetaMask Wallet.
1. Open the “Beam to Ethereum Bridge” in My DApp Store
2. Select “BEAM => WBEAM (Ethereum)”
3. Click “1. Ethereum side of the bridge in your web browser”. A pop-up will appear in your browser.
4. In your browser, connect MetaMask to the Bridge dApp.
5. Approve “BEAM” Token. A MetaMask pop-up will appear. Sign the token approval.
6. In your browser, Click “BEAM => WBEAM (Ethereum)”
7. Copy your Ethereum address and paste it into the “Beam to Ethereum Bridge” dApp in Beam Wallet.
8. In your Beam Wallet, paste your Ethereum address. Select the amount you wish to bridge, verify the relayer and transaction fees, and select confirm.
9. A small pop-up for final confirmation will appear. Verify the amount (the amount shown will be the combined bridged amount + relayer fees), and click confirm.
10. The “Send funds” pop-up will appear on the bottom-right corner of your Beam Wallet. Click “Show details”.
11. Verify the transaction details. In a few minutes, the transaction will be completed.
12. In ~60 minutes, the bridged funds will appear in your MetaMask Wallet. Your transaction is now complete!
