Why Our Obsession With the Slim-Thick Body Type Is Making Women Miserable

And what we should do instead

I can’t stop staring at the asses of women in my gym.

They’re just so round. They look like peaches squeezed into expensive gym shorts.

It’s not just one woman, it’s all of them. No exaggeration — I counted the other day. I was the only flat-assed, rotund-stomached woman puffing my way through a session in the entire gym.

Everyone else, it seems, was gunning for the “slim-thick” body shape.

Slim-thick was popularised by the likes of Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner. Tiny waist, large but highly toned butt, and larger-than-average boobs.

An extreme version of what used to be called the hourglass shape.

Being slim-thick has been a body ideal for a while now — it likely took hold around 2015 — but it’s trending in a big way right now. Kim Kardashian’s 2024 Met Gala dress is testament to that.

Being slim-thick has trickled down into popular Western culture so much that now, I’m watching scores of Portuguese women attempting to graft the big-booty-tiny-waist shape onto their own bodies.
