We’ve been receiving lots of great feedback and questions about BlockCAT and we’d like to answer some of the most common ones. We’ll update this post with additional questions as needed.

When does the sale end?
The end block is 4173210.
This will be Aug 18th depending on your timezone.

Why has the end date changed?
The end block has never changed: 4173210.
The time taken to mine each Ethereum block has gone up from 18 seconds average, to 22 seconds average. This has caused our sale to end later than planned.

I’m using ImToken Wallet and cannot see my CAT
ImToken detects tokens by reading transfer events. Due to the way our contract works, we don’t “transfer” CAT to you, instead we “create” CAT and assign your wallet as the owner.

There is a solution though. You can login to MyEtherWallet with your ImToken seed phrase. Just select “Mnemonic Phrase” as the login option. Using the MyEtherWallet “Send Ether & Tokens” page, send some CAT to yourself (to your ImToken address) and this will allow ImToken to detect your CAT.

If you need any help with this process, please contact us via email: team@blockcat.io

My purchase failed and my Ether was returned to me. What happened?
You probably didn’t include the correct transaction data when sending Ether. See our guides on how to purchase with MyEtherWallet, Parity and MetaMask for more details.

I’ve purchased but cannot find my CAT, how do I check?
Visit this link: https://etherscan.io/token/0x56ba2Ee7890461f463F7be02aAC3099f6d5811A8

In the box called “ Search/Filter By:”, enter your wallet address then click “Apply”. It will load a page which displays your CAT balance.

How do I see CAT in MEW/MetaMask/Parity?
We have guides for each of these services:

MetaMask: https://youtu.be/ZK-i1_n6gFE?t=80
MEW: https://medium.com/@BlockCAT/guide-purchase-cat-using-myetherwallet-917fa91c641f (Near the end, Step Seven)
Parity: https://medium.com/@BlockCAT/guide-check-cat-balance-using-parity-590113a144bd

Which exchanges are you listed on?
We are listed on EtherDelta: https://etherdelta.github.io/#CAT-ETH
More will be added in the future.

When will you be listed on X exchange?
We cannot give any details about our talks with exchanges. We also cannot give estimates on when. These talks take time and involve lots of legal compliance. Our team is dedicated to improving the liquidity of the CAT token and we will share news when we are able to.

Why is the total Ether on your website different to the Ether in your contract?
We have moved some of the Ether into storage.

Do you have an Alpha/MVP?
Yes! It’s live here: https://alpha.blockcat.io/

When is your core platform/marketplace/designer release
Core Platform: Q1 2018
Marketplace: Q1 2019
Custom Designer: Q4 2019

Will you support X feature or X type of contract?
Our marketplace will allow developers to support all kinds of contracts. BlockCAT will provide many default ones, determined by our team with feedback and suggestions from the community.

Can I use BlockCAT to run my own ICO?
This is our most requested feature, so it’s something we’re looking into regarding legality and technicality. The feature is possible, but not yet confirmed.

Why do you use Discord instead of Slack?
Slack is designed for companies where all users are trusted. This means a lack of security features and a playground for scammers. Discord has many features that make things more secure for our users.

The contribute button on your tokensale page doesn’t work
1) Try clearing your browser cache
2) Press Ctrl+Shift+R on a PC, or Cmd+Shift+R on a mac.
3) Check Javascript is enabled in your browser, and you have no script blocking plugins installed.
4) Contact us via email (team@blockcat.io) or discord if the above steps do not solve the problem.

Are there any interviews with your team?
Yes, there are many. Here’s the most comprehensive one.

What can your Token be used for?
CAT serves several key operational functions with respect to the BlockCAT platform for its holders:

  • CAT will be the only means of paying for contract deployment.
  • CAT owners will be allowed to participate in milestone completion votes, which will be used to unlock reserves for BlockCAT expenditure.
  • CAT will serve as the primary mechanic for verifying third-party marketplace smart contracts in a decentralized and secure way.

Why use a token instead of Ether?
Governance: The token actually allows our marketplace verification to function in ways that using Ether cannot. The separation from Ether allows us to have governance within the platform.

A token is necessary for this sub-governance. Not having sub-governance would be like anyone who owns USD being able to walk into a Google shareholder meeting and voting without owning Google stock just because Google shares happen to be denominated in USD. Or like everyone in the US being able to vote on the bylaws of a social club in San Francisco, just because it happens to exist in the US.
— Fred Ehrsam: Co-founder of Coinbase, Source.

By only allowing those who own CAT to stake on the integrity of marketplace smart contracts, we ensure our users will have interests that align with the platform.

Efficiency: Our platform is more than just templates. It contains a whole ecosystem of users, developers, contracts, visual interfaces and accounts. It’s therefore important to reduce execution complexity where possible. The logged events encoded as part of the CAT smart contract will be many orders of magnitude smaller than the Ether transaction events log, and its size will remain knowable and consistent with the use of the platform. This allows us to perform computations that are core to the platform with higher efficiency, certainty, and performance, making BlockCAT objectively better for users.

Doesn’t using a Token make your platform needlessly more complex?
We will implement ways of purchasing CAT seamlessly as part of contract deployment using a number of different currencies, including Ether, so the user’s experience is smooth.

Why is your cap hidden?
Hidden caps make it hard for large participants to manipulate the market or control the token supply. This reduces the chances that CAT will be held by a small number of people. A larger distribution of tokens is beneficial to the platform and its users.

We do understand the concern with hidden caps is from companies receiving large amounts of Ether which they remain unaccountable for. So how can you rely on our team to create the service as promised? We’ve committed to locking up Ether received from the sale until release milestones have been reached.

what people are opposed to is (i) the idea of completely new and untested development teams getting $50 million all at once […] There is no feedback mechanism where teams are first given a small amount of money to prove themselves, and then given access to more and more capital over time as they prove themselves to be reliable and successful.
Vitalik Buterin, Founder of Ethereum, Source.

Inspired by Vitalik’s suggestion of a feedback mechanism, we are implementing a milestone accountability vote, which allows CAT holders to vote as oracles to confirm the release of milestones in our platform. Portions of Ether from the token sale will be locked, if the vote is signaled a success by CAT holders, BlockCAT will be able to access the next portion of locked Ether. We hope this model helps reduce any concerns about the accountability of our team.

More Questions?
If you have any other questions about BlockCAT’s token sale or any aspect of our platform, we’ve got an open discussion happening in our slack channel.
