Meet the Bolster Buddies: Cat (Head of Digital)

We launched the Bolster Buddies initiative last year, successfully pairing applicants with our team to chit-chat about all things digital, design, content and web development over a cup of joe. We’re now delving a little deeper into each of our departments, (a little getting-to-know-you before the coffee, if you will) so you can see what it is we do and how our Buddies’ expertise might apply to you. First up is Cat Rewha, our Head of Digital. She leads our team of digital campaign managers and ensures Bolster is ahead of the game when it comes to data and technology.

What do you do at Bolster in a sentence?
Empower the Digital team to make sustainable decisions that will turn the URL into a healthy IRL.

How did you get to where you are at Bolster?
I worked for a few major brands and major agencies in data analysis and performance marketing, so career-wise that’s how I came into this field. But at Bolster, I’ve been lucky to have mentorship inside and outside of Bolster from other female leaders that have helped shape me toward a leadership role. This is alongside the support for me to take a step back and do the work on myself to get to that point. That’s the truth of it — outside all of the desk-time and successful campaigns.

Favourite project that you’ve worked on?
I’m currently working on a data project that will change the way we see data, use data and make business decisions. This is exciting for me because I get to learn more about big data and shape the way that it will look for Bolster. It’s rare for non-white males to be in this position, so I’m taking on the ethical mission of trying to drive more diversity in how we see, use and analyse data.

Most surprising thing about your role that people might not know?
Half of my time is actually spent learning how people behave and interact with each other so that I can come up with supportive infrastructure that maintains a shit hot Bolster Digital community. It’s not all numbers and tech, people are actually the main part of what I do and without them — we wouldn’t be here, achieving what we do.

Best career advice you’ve ever gotten?
Would you rather got told off for being complacent, or get told off for taking a risk? — That was from the real MVP Dom, our Finance Director when I was feeling a little overwhelmed about charging forward with a structure that I knew would get knocked back and distilled if I waited on stakeholders to make a decision. In the end, I’d rather get slammed for taking a risk…and I reckon we should all be otherwise we won’t get things done.

How do you take your coffee?
I don’t drink coffee. Controversial here in Melbourne, but it makes my brain work on an unproductive hectic edge…and I’m about that slow livin’, calm, considered life. So in saying that, I’ll take an oat milk Chai instead thanks.
