We launched Bolster Buddies in 2019 to connect people with our team to meet and chat about digital, design, content and web development.

Last year our program paired up applicants — students, interns, juniors and those mid-career — with Bolster staff members for a fun, informal chat over coffee. The aim was to help people learn about our industry and provide guidance on how to get a leg-up wherever they’re headed.

In 2020 we’ve learnt that staying connected is more important than ever, so we’re here to let you know we’re still available for a coffee or chat … via Zoom, of course.

To help give you a taste of what we do here at Bolster, we’re delving into each of our departments a little deeper. Enter Nicky Humphreys, our Creative Director.

What do you do at Bolster in a sentence?

I help guide the creative output of the studio across the areas of graphic design, content, digital and web design.

How did you get to where you are at Bolster?

I was there from day one of Bolster when it was a music management company. I branded the first iteration of the company and when Bolster pivoted in 2015, I was working for them while living in London.

I came back later that same year to head up the Creative Department and the rest is history.

Favourite project you’ve worked on?

Building Linktree! Actually it’s really hard to choose. I like certain projects for certain reasons.

Most surprising thing about your role that people might not know?

I’d say 90 percent of my role is just communication. A substantial portion of my time each day is spent translating briefs, ideas and concepts into the design team. The vast experience I have gained over the years allows me to give deeper context to help frame actionable tasks from an abstract or broad brief.

What’s getting you through these crazy times?

Tunes. Like this one and this one.

Best career advice you’ve ever gotten?

Other than insights and learnings from books, podcasts or blog posts … I’ve actually never sought or received any substantial career advice. Although, I do like to live by the Meredith Music Festival ’No Dickheads Policy’.

How do you take your coffee?

Black.

Whether you’re into creative, digital, development, content — or a combination of all of them, we have someone like Nicky up for a chat. Interested? Apply for the Bolster Buddies program here.
