Every year, Spotify compiles the most listened songs in a personal playlist! Here is mine — the places from 10 to 1. ❤️

👉 YES! It’s the FINALS. 🥳🥂

10: The Dragonborn Comes by Saltatio Mortis feat. Lara Loft

Yesterday we had Dragonborn in 12th place. Today we have the Dragonborn upgrade! And I’m super proud!

And why is that?

👉 Saltatio Mortis is not only from Germany. In fact, the band is from Baden-Württemberg, the state where I live and grew up. My family has been able to see Saltatio Mortis live several times.

Lara Loft, on the other hand, is super famous. Not only has she voiced for big titles in the gaming industry, but also for Disney! And yes. She’s from Germany, too. Can you see me in my mind’s eye, grinning with pride? 🙈

9: Amerika (Way Too American Cover) by Melodicka Bros

“We sincerely apologize for killing the German language, American culture and Italy’s reputation all in a single video. Enjoy.”

With this apology (warning?) Melodicka Bros introduces the video.

And Spotify may say otherwise (see #5 — what?!), but “Amerika” is definitely my favorite of the cover band Melodicka Bros!

The best part starts sometime in the middle when in western style the supposed duel in the sunset starts. If only he’d had his gun…. 👀 Brilliant!

8: Linkin Park Mashup by David Michael Frank & Grayson DeWolfe

Okay, for some this might be a little too “boy band-ish”. But what can I say? I like emotional match-ups. And the two guys have great voices and harmonize perfectly with each other.

7: San Sebastian (Acoustic) by Sonata Arctica

In the original, “San Sebastian” is beautiful, fast-paced power metal. The acoustic version gives the song a western flair.

6: Se Acerca El Invierno by Saurom

“Winter is Coming” — Yes, this is a homage to Game of Thrones by the Spanish music group Saurom.

As with so many songs I like, the dynamics and power in the music won me over, as well as the poetry in the lines.

But I like the 👉 live video even better! And it sounds even more like Game of Thrones.

5: Take On Me (Celtic Cover) by Melodicka Bros

How did “Take on me” get to #5? Sure, Melodicka Bros. But #5 is a pretty good number.

The style reminds me of a TV show I watched on Amazon Prime a few months ago: The Magicians. There was a sad part there where the main characters sang “Take on me” in such a slow and melancholic way as well.

It was a very beautiful, high-fantasy series. I loved it! Just a bit rushed toward the end, unfortunately.

4: Bajo La Luna by Rubén Kelsen

Rubén Kelsen was already included yesterday — at number 18 with a faster and louder song. “Bajo la luna”, on the other hand, is the opposite of that. A romantic ballad that I listened to on repeat quite often.

I’m a little surprised that Rubén Kelsen isn’t better known. He has such a beautiful voice and makes wonderful music. 8300 subscribers on YouTube are comparatively low for a musician. He deserves much more.

3: FullMoon (Acoustic) by Sonata Arctica

“Full Moon” is one of the most popular songs by Sonata Arctica. The lyrics tell the story of a couple where the man turns into a werewolf.

The original is pretty cool, but the acoustic version serves as a perfect alternative, especially for those who don’t like the loud/fast metal.

2: Shamandalie (Acoustic) by Sonata Arctica

When I hear this song, very personal memories come to me. That’s probably why I like it so much.

The nostalgic lines hit hard. And the question inevitably arises, what would have been, if…?

And then I continue to wonder if it’s okay to relive an old love over and over in your mind — even if you’re happy today.

1: El Sueño De Deirdre by Celtian

Yess! Not only is this my favorite song, but also my son Brian sings along to it regularly.

I’ve featured this song before. That was in the 👉 “Each Letter of Your First Name Is a Song” Challenge. It’s a duet by the Spanish folk metal band Celtian with the talented Rubén Kelsen — you may remember the ballad at #4.

Needless to say, I know the song by heart from beginning to end. No wonder, because I can hardly count how many times “El Sueño De Deirdre” already ran on repeat on my phone!

And that’s it for the Spotify Top 100 of 2022!
