Trump Thinks Mug Shot and Dollar-Store Sneakers Will Help Him Appeal to Black Voters
Trump’s campaign is embracing racial stereotypes
In the latest racially insensitive comments uttered by the twice-impeached former President and criminal defendant Donald Trump, he now believes his spray-tan sneakers and multiple criminal indictments will help him win support from Black voters.
Last week, I was perplexed by Trump’s decision to unveil a new line of Air Treason sneakers with a $400 price tag. Officially coined “Never Surrender” sneakers, these look like generic $20 white shoes that were spray painted with a mixture of whatever Trump uses to color his face and hair.
Selling overpriced flaxen merchandise has always been entirely on-brand for Trump, but footwear feels like something that came entirely out of the blue. We’re talking about one of the least athletic presidents of all time who has described exercise as a harmful experience that drains a person’s lifeforce like a non-rechargeable battery.
‘‘All my friends who work out all the time, they’re going for knee replacements, hip replacements — they’re a disaster,’’ Trump once claimed in a New York Times profile.
