As a craftsman immersed in my field, I’ve noticed and maybe you too a growing trend among experts leaning toward teaching courses alongside our day jobs. Many, I’m sure well-meaning individuals, encourage us to do so, considering it an additional income stream. While I see the merit in this idea, I firmly believe that as craftsmen, we should approach teaching with caution. It’s crucial for us to prioritize the careful selection of potential students over merely collecting payment. Stay with me as we discuss the potential drawbacks of accepting ill-equipped students, shedding light on how it can negatively impact our brand and emphasizing the significance of investing time in student selection.

The Pitfall of Incompetent Students

Imagine this scene: a highly skilled craftsman imparting knowledge to an individual who lacks both proficiency and financial means in our craft. Let’s take, for instance, a finance professional like myself attempting to teach someone about acquiring commercial real estate. If the student is ill-prepared and lacks the necessary resources to execute projects, their inability to perform can tarnish my reputation as a craftsman.
