The Capptions module, including a forms builder and mobile app, is part of the backbone of the Capptions (fka Safety Changer) platform together with an Observations module, an Action Module , a Reports and BI Module and the Integrations API. Together, they support teams in the digital transformation of inspection-, QHSE- and operations-management processes. These management processes are vital in high-risk organisations, but are found in any organisation that employs risky activities.

Two-way work floor communication

The Capptions app is the part of the Capptions platform that is aimed at realtime two-way process-communication between shop floor professionals and their peers in the office.

On one hand, it provides employees on the spot and in the moment with the information they need to do their jobs in a high-quality, ergonomic and safe way. Examples are

  • work-instructions,
  • safety-instructions,
  • manuals and
  • checklists

that can be consulted when and wherever they’re needed.

On the other hand, it helps the very same shop floor professional in exchanging work-place information in real-time with the office. Examples are

  • audits,
  • inspections,
  • test-results,
  • materials usage,
  • hour- and kilometer-registrations

Last minute risk assessment (LMRA)

A special example of two-way communication in the shop-floor is the last minute risk assessment (LMRA). The objective of an LMRA is to have a shop floor professional and their direct colleagues stand still for a couple of minutes prior to starting the work, and actively consider the risks of the job at hand. In the same moment, they need to notify their office peers upon having done the LMRA, and what hazards they found, as well as what counter-measures they implemented to secure the safe start of and safe working conditions during the job.

Accoding to the ‘blue booklet’ of UnetoVNI, the industry body of installation professionals, the LMRA is a short general risk assessment, aimed at discovering the hazards in your own workplace, and eliminating risks and dangerous conditions that might lead to an incident. An LMRA takes between 1 and 3 minutes and is executed by the person(s) that will actually perform the job. If and when an employee performs a risky job or works in a hazardous environment, the LMRA is mandatory. The LMRA is obligatory for employees that work for VCA-certified organisations and is recommended for employees of non-certified organisations.

Do you see potential risks or hazards in your work place in case you do the LMRA? Do not start the work when in doubt or when you lack a positive answer or sufficient information! In such case, do consult your superior.

The LMRA in four steps:

  1. Do I understand my assignment/task in full detail?
  2. What can still go wrong and what hazards do I see myself?
  3. What must be done to eliminate the hazard?
  4. Implement the necessary measures to secure safe working

LMRA and Capptions

Capptions helps you to tailoring these four steps in your organisation and your and your colleagues’ work places. It helps you secure actuality and work situation specificity. That can even be done in a dynamic way, where the questions can be accustomed to the season and the actual safety theme.
