At Chainode Tech, we’re dedicated to driving the blockchain ecosystem forward through our Web3 infrastructure and staking services. Our goal is to explore groundbreaking technologies and methodologies that can expand the possibilities of decentralization.

Celestia stood out to us from the start as an innovative blockchain platform, redefining the understanding of modularity within the decentralized space. From the early days of Celestia, we have kept a keen eye on its development and were thrilled to be among the selected Blockspace Race Incentivised Testnet participants as well as part of the Mainnet Genesis Validators.

In this article, we’ll share insights from our experience as a Celestia Validator, highlight what distinguishes Celestia from other blockchain platforms, and guide you on how to engage both actively and proactively with the Celestia ecosystem.

Chainode Tech: A Validator’s Perspective on the Celestia Blockchain

Having aligned ourselves with Celestia’s vision from the outset, we embraced our role as a Validator during its nascent stages. We actively and successfully participated in the Blockspace Race Testnet until the program’s conclusion and have been operating a Mainnet node since Genesis.

Those familiar with our journey know that we approach the selection of blockchain projects with a meticulous vetting process. Yet, Celestia’s mission and architecture captivated us from the beginning, making our decision to support its development as an infrastructure provider a straightforward one. But what exactly drew us to the Celestia Ecosystem? It offers several key benefits: separating consensus and application execution layers, simplifying blockchain deployment to the ease of smart contract deployment, enhancing scalability through data availability sampling which aligns Celestia’s throughput with user growth, ensuring secure interoperability across Celestia chains, and providing developers the flexibility to choose their execution environments, starting with EVM and Cosmos SDK, among other advancements.

Our involvement as a Validator extends beyond mere participation; we also actively contribute to the network’s development and expansion. To this end, we’ve developed a Validator and Bridge Status Monitoring Solution using Grafana & Prometheus for the Celestia Network. Additionally, we support the ecosystem by operating both a Celestia Testnet validator and bridge, enhancing the testing of Celestia software and empowering developers to build upon it.

Celestia: Blockchain Modularity at its finest.

Let’s explore in more detail what sets Celestia apart within the blockchain space. These unique features focus on solving some of the longstanding challenges faced by existing blockchain networks, such as scalability, flexibility, and developer accessibility. Here are some key differentiators:

Modular Architecture: Unlike monolithic blockchains that bundle consensus, data availability and execution into a single layer, Celestia adopts a modular approach. More specifically, modular blockchains decouple consensus from execution, allowing for cutting-edge scalability and flexibility. By decoupling these layers, Celestia enables a new design space for decentralized applications and blockchain development.

Data Availability Sampling: Data availability is a critical aspect of blockchain security, ensuring that anyone can inspect and verify the ledger of transactions. Celestia utilizes data availability sampling, a process that allows light nodes to verify data availability without downloading the full data for a block. This technique not only enhances the security and throughput of the network but also requires significantly less expensive hardware than full nodes.

Sovereign Blockchains: The network facilitates the creation of sovereign blockchains that can operate independently while still benefiting from the security and data availability provided by Celestia. This means developers can launch their own blockchains without the need to bootstrap a new consensus mechanism, making blockchain deployment as easy as deploying a smart contract. This approach allows for the easy bootstrapping of new chains using Celestia’s framework, effectively democratizing access to blockchain technology.

Optimistic Rollups and ZK-Rollups Support: Celestia is designed to be compatible with various layer 2 scaling solutions, including Optimistic Rollups and ZK-rollups. This compatibility enables developers to build scalable decentralized applications that can process a high volume of transactions efficiently and at a lower cost.

Secure Interoperability: The modular nature of Celestia facilitates secure interoperability between different blockchains built on top of it. This allows for seamless communication and value transfer across multiple blockchain ecosystems, enhancing the network effect and utility of each individual chain.

Flexibility for Developers: Developers have the flexibility to define their execution environments, starting with popular frameworks like EVM (Ethereum Virtual Machine) and Cosmos SDK. This empowers developers to build customized applications that cater to their specific needs, without being constrained by the limitations of a one-size-fits-all blockchain.

Engaging with the Celestia Ecosystem: 5 Ways for Community Members to Get Involved

Beyond its technical advantages, Celestia has cultivated a strong community of developers and enthusiasts passionate about the potential of modular blockchains. This supportive ecosystem encourages innovation, collaboration, and the rapid development of tools, applications and services. If you haven’t actively joined the Celestia Ecosystem yet, here are a few ideas on how you can get involved.

1. Build Whatever

If you have a development background and are eager to create cool new things, Celestia is the right place for you. Build, integrate, deploy — a wide array of resources and documentation can be found here.

2. Learn Modular

Investing in knowledge pays the best interest, especially in the swiftly evolving blockchain landscape where new innovations frequently surface, presenting remarkable opportunities when utilized effectively. Here, you’ll find a comprehensive range of resources for all levels on blockchain modularity, from novice to expert. Moreover, for those who prefer auditory learning, you can dive into the insightful episodes of The No Execution Podcast or check Celestia’s official YouTube channel.

3. Stake TIA to earn rewards and help secure the Celestia Network

TIA token holders looking to engage with the Celestia ecosystem can participate in the staking process, enhancing the network security while earning TIA staking rewards. Chainode Tech is proud to serve as a Validator for the Celestia Network since its Mainnet Genesis, maintaining a fair 5% fee and consistent performance. TIA delegators are encouraged to spread their stakes across multiple Validators, which aids in enhancing the network’s decentralization. A comprehensive list of the Celestia Validators is available here.

4. Run a Celestia Node

As a node operator, depending on your experience, there are several roles you can fulfill within the Celestia Network, each critical to its function and efficiency. For consensus operations, you have the choice of running either a Validator node or a full consensus node. If you’re more interested in supporting data availability, you can operate as a bridge node, a full storage node, or a light node. Each of these roles ensures that data remains accessible and secure across the network, which is essential for the system’s overall reliability and performance. More information about joining the network or running a light node can be found here.

5. Join Celestia’s in-person events and meet the Modular community

Following two successful editions in Amsterdam and Paris, the Modular Summit, Celestia’s flagship annual event, is set to make its next stop in Brussels, Belgium! Scheduled for July 11–13, this year’s Modular Summit 3.0 promises an expanded lineup with more curated tracks, hands-on workshops, and larger capacity for attendees. Official side events will complement the main sessions. Tickets will go on sale soon, and additional details about the event can be accessed here. The Celestia team has been actively participating in global events, with recent appearances in Istanbul, Denver, and Dubai.
