A Kind Of Storm
A seed poem for Chalkboard’s Time to Rhyme project
When we first met, well he was odd from the outset
His credentials impressive, he borrowed with no possessives
I wondered, and there it was, that wonder
Was that all? The wonder of it all
It was unattainable, I really but made myself available
I tugged on the chapped skin, curious — well, all snakes shed skin —
a little too hard, and I felt it came away; a regard
and the oozing, a drop of blood I needed him to stop
That summed it whole, a connection built on a parole
A pause over my lip, I knew how it would taste; that skip
to flick my tongue and sing the right songs
all it needed to start, all it needed on my part
We danced like cougars, with our sly manoeuvres
Above the long swept line in the sand our feet ground in time
writing invitations for free, the price was in the debris
When liquid iron rains suddenly, and like always, much too cheaply
