This new game is an old game, but you never seem to have time to play it. You see a phrase, and you say, “That would be a great poem/song title,” but never have time to start. Today is the day.
My own poem emerged from a post by Lisa Renee. It’s a goldmine of quirky, eye-catching titles. Same with another subsequent piece by the same writer. I don’t want to quash any creativity, so do feel free to find your catchy, quirky title anywhere on Medium. Find the games rules below the links.
How to Play
- Find your catchy, quirky title in any story here on Medium.
- Create a new story with this title.
- As your subtitle, write ‘after <@originalwriter>’ (with the original writer’s Medium name in there).
- Write your poem in any form, or no form at all. (Prose poetry is acceptable, but it must use poetic techniques or devices.)
- At the bottom of your poem, put a separator, then add:
This EnTITLEd to Inspiration poem is part of a series on Chalkboard. I took my title from a line in this piece:
followed by an embed-link to the original piece. - Tag your post with EnTITLEd to Inspiration, and any other helpful tags you like.
- Now you’re ready to submit!
(a) If you’re not yet a writer for Chalkboard, comment on this story, asking to be added. (Tag Andy Meyer or Tamyka Bell for a quicker response.)
(b) Once you’re a writer for Chalkboard, submit your story to the publication as a draft.
(c) A Chalkboard editor will check your story and publish it. You should receive a Medium notification once it’s published, unless you’ve turned off notifications. - Tamyka Bell reckons she’d go back to the original post, highlight the words she used as her title, and write a reply with a link to her freshly-published new material…but you’re under no obligation to do that!
