Think back to last month. Do you remember what you did every Saturday night? What about last week? Do you remember every outfit you wore? What else do you remember, maybe what you had for each meal or the big projects you completed at work?

Now, let’s think about yesterday, what do you remember?

I’m sure you remember many more things than last month; what you wore, if it was a good or bad day, what shows you watched on TV, and many other details about the day.

As we go through life, many of us only remember the big things or the things that we have deemed important for one reason or another. The choices we make day in and day out, shape our future but many of us do not remember even 10 percent of those choices. What we don’t remember are the many small, but incredibly powerful choices that we make on a daily basis.

Choice — the most powerful gift we control

Each of the details you remember, and especially those you don’t, are the results of choices you made. The small ones, the one’s we think have no consequence — those are the ones that have the most profound impact on our lives and the lives of everyone around us. At every point in our life, whether we realize it or not, we make choices.

Our choices dictate every aspect of our life from getting out of bed in the morning, our lunch choices, to even how we feel about the day. Over time we start to believe the choices we make are facts about us. They become who we are and what we can accomplish. We believe in these results so much that we even convince those around us to believe in them as well.

This doesn’t have to be the case!

The beautiful thing about choices, are that there is always more than one choice option. We get to choose to go to the gym or not. We get to choose to eat McDonalds or not. We get to even choose to treat ourselves and our family differently. We even get to choose how we feel about events in our life. Choices allow us to dictate our experience. They impact events that take place in our lives. Choices paint our life picture for years to come.

Our perception dictates our experience

If you go into an event having a negative thought process, you will not have a good experience. However, if you are able to perceive things just as they are, not negative or positive, you can create powerful results for yourself. For example, instead of having a negative reaction to getting into a car accident because you were staring at your phone, you took a positive reaction to it and used it as an experience to learn and grow from. You are blessed to have a car. You are blessed to have a phone. You are blessed to be alive. And, you choose to use the accident to serve as a wake up call to be present to your surroundings. You choose not to take life for granted and to really live. Alert, present at all times, living.

You — Your Dreams — Your Choices

Realize, the only thing holding you back from the life of your dreams, is YOU. It takes courage to make the choice to be uncomfortable, to be bold. To live the life of your dreams you must be willing to make the choice to let go of what has not been working in your life.

My advice to you is to first figure out what you want out of your life. If you could do anything in the world, or be anything, what would that look like? From there, take a look at all of the things in your life that are not serving that vision. Once you are crystal clear on what your life gets to look like and identify the things in your life that are not serving that vision, you can begin to pick away at those things with intentional, committed action and change the choices you make on a minute by minute basis.

Be intentional for the day — Every Day

This could look like “I’m going to eat 5 fruits and vegetables today,” and then start off the day with that intention. This will allow you to show your mind that you are serious about these changes and it will serve to support you throughout the day when you the time to make another choice arises. Soon, you will see, the more choices you make, big or small, that are contrary to what you have done in the past, the easier it will become. The beliefs you had before, will soon fade away and the people you had convinced of one thing, will soon believe in the new you.

What choice will you make today?
