Movies have a life of their own. When we watch a movie, we just don’t focus on the actors. The costumes, dialogues, music is significant to us as well. Also, significant are the locations. Locations add character to every character in the movie. Often regarded as the best city of the world, what location is better than the Big Apple! New York City with its great locations, awesome nooks and corners has loads of stories to tell.

Here we have ten films which chose New York City as a prime location-

1. Annie Hall-1977

Perhaps Woody Allen’s best work yet, Annie Hall sees New York City in a whole new fashion. Famous scenes depicting Annie’s apartment is located on 36 East 68th Street in Manhattan. The scene showing Alvy waiting for Annie is the Beekman Cinema of 1254 2nd Avenue in Manhattan again. The Bethesda Fountain in Central Park, Manhattan is also pretty visible in the movie.

2. The Devil Wears Prada

Miranda Priestly(Meryl Streep) and Andrea Sachs(Anne Hathway) in one of the best movies, also live in the Big Apple! The Runway Magazine Headquarters shown in the film is actually the McGraw-Hill Building on Sixth Avenue. While Seventh Avenue was used to show the Fashion Avenue. St. Regis Hotel where Anne Hathway meets Simon Baker, is the real St. Regis Hotel on 2 East 55th Street and 5th Avenue, Manhattan.

How can we leave out Times Square which represents the true essence of New York City rightly portrayed in the movie!

3. Limitless-2011

Bradley Cooper, Abbie Cornish and Robert De Niro with their awesome looks and performances steal the movie ‘Limitless’. As much as them, we can see New York City in the movie as well. Eddie’s Apartment, in the movie is located on 19–21 Henry Street and Catherine Street in Manhattan. Broadway and West 28th Street, Manhattan is one location you cannot miss! Faust Harrison Pianos, of 202 West 58th Street and 7th Avenue is shown in this movie and also in ‘Music and Lyrics’ starring Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore.

4. American Psycho-2000

The world got introduced to the Christian Bale in a pretty earlier made movie. It was American Psycho in the year 2011. Bale gave a stunning performance and so did the locations in New York City. The Nightclub in the movie is located on 220 12th Avenue (btw West 27th and 28th Street) in Manhattan. One can also see the NY Yacht Club, 50 Vanderbilt Avenue and East 44th Street again in Manhattan.

5. Breakfast at Tiffany’s- 1961

Audrey Hepburn & George Peppard together gave the world one of the most stunning performances, dialogues, story and movie together. Audrey Hepburn is seen having breakfast at the Tiffany Store. The jewelry store, Tiffany & Co Store, 727 5th Avenue and East 57th Street in Manhattan has become world famous because of this movie. We can also prominently see the Conservatory Water, Central Park (from 72nd to 75th Street) and New York Public Library, 5th Avenue (btw 40th and 42nd Street) in Manhattan as well.

6. When Harry met Sally-1989

A film which rose a new generation of love stories is When Harry met Sally. Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal showed the world a pretty realistic and yet entertaining film set in New York City. The Washington Square Park, Greenwich Village, Manhattan and the Loeb Boathouse, Central Park are real locations in New York City where the actors walk and have lunch with friends. Katz’s Deli is located on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal sat and ate inside the deli. The table where they ate is marked with a sign above the table.

7. The Godfather-1972

One can never forget what a great film ‘The Godfather’ was. Although there are a couple of sequels to the film, the first installment in the entire series remains special always. The places where the film was shot are also famous because of the film.

110 Longfellow Road, Staten Island is the place where the Corleone Mansion is located. The Tollbooth scene is shot in Mitchell Field, Garden City in Long Island. The Best & Co. Store is situated on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan.

8. The Wolf of Wall Street-2013

Leonardo Di Caprio portraying Jordan Belfort was an amazing film and filmed amazingly in every way possible. Along with the actors, the real locations of New York City proved to be successful as well. The pub Rao’s from the movie is Rao’s 455 East 114th Street and Pleasant Avenue, Harlem. North Cove Marina (Near World Trade Center) Manhattan is used to depict the cruise scenes.

Of course when the name of the movie is “Wolf of Wall Street’ you simply cannot miss out on Nassau Street and Wall Street, in Manhattan!
