“Sorry, Adrian,” you say, “but our time is over. Farewell and I wish you all the best.”
Tears well up in your former friend’s eyes. You bite your lip and refuse to give in. The sight of his sad face is too much for you, so you turn your head away.
Eshami murmurs some soothing words to the boy, and Adrian mutters something back. The angel gazes at all three of you with an unreadable expression.
Then you hear Adrian say, “If that’s what you want, Iris…okay. But I’ll never stop loving you!”
You glance back over your shoulder. The boy is wiping away his tears. He nods briefly at Eshami, and casts you a last mournful look. Then he finally walks away.
It seems as though a heavy cloud has lifted from your heart. You feel sorry for Adrian, as unrequited love must be hard to bear. But he should still respect your no.
