This is a ‘choose your own’ fiction story, “drabble edition”. You can check out Chapter 1 of this story: The Burned Village. Check the previous chapter: ‘The Way Into Ballax’ by Andrew Crocker.

The orc no doubt smelled terrible in life. He’s worse as a corpse! Striving to hold your breath, you peel the armor away.

The chestplate is small, so you remove your own armor. Then you gag as you strap on the helmet. You keep your sword and axe, though, in preference to the creature’s rusty weapons.

You take a length of rope, and tie Scruff to a nearby tree. “You’re safer here, boy,” you say.

Finally, you raise the orc’s shield, with its insignia.

Creeping ahead, you see a broad path to the fortress, with guard towers on both sides.

You decide to…

  1. Lurk by one of the guard towers, waiting for a chance to sneak in (click here).
  2. Approach the first orc you see and demand that they take you inside (click here).
