This is a ‘choose your own’ fiction story, “drabble edition”. Head back to the previous instalment: ‘Scrambling up the Steep Rocks’, or ‘Shields and Flaming Arrows’, by JF Danskin. Or go back to Chapter 1: “The Burned Village.” Find out how to contribute to the ongoing story here.

You clamber up, reaching a stony plateau. A vast cave system lies beyond.

To your right, down below in the trees, a skirmish is taking place. A man, elf, and hound are fighting off an orc raiding party.

Closer, just yards ahead, two orcs are dragging a kicking, struggling Polki. They are with a mysterious human warrior.

“Hurry —we need that goblin princeling!” yells the warrior.

You think you recognise the voice. And his head turns… yes. It is your childhood friend Zaroph… working with the orcs!

Tox’ar and Naya run up, and you unsling your bow, ready to act.

What do you do?

  1. Shoot at Zaroph (click here).
  2. Shoot at the pair of orcs (click here).

This is a collaborative story. Please feel free to join in and add a chapter, furthering the story in any way you like. Each main part of the story (not including choices and blurb) should be a 100-word drabble. Or drop suggestions in the comments!
